  • God Bless your Family and your Daughter.

  • This is why women shouldnt be in the military! Men are the only people who should ever have to die in war, its good that women are excluded from artillery, infantry, and special forces! This is a mistake because women arent suppost to die

  • I'm joining the army as a medic next year since I'm graduating out o hs

  • I got to FOB Summerall a few days after Rachel's unfortunate passing. Though I did not know her, as a Medic myself, I can say that she was in my thoughts regularly for my 15 month deployment there. I didn't get to go to her memorial because I had to man the Aid Station. We were busy taking over for the 82nd guys, and it was such a busy Aid Station. She died doing what any real Medic should be doing: taking care of the Soldiers. God bless her, and God bless your family. She makes us all proud!

  • Amen brother...Amen!

  • Thank you to all who have served and all whom are about to.I apologize for her having to pay the ultimate price for our country.I have 2 felony convictions and went to prison twice for aggravated assault. I tried three times to enlist and was refused; they consider me a "liability".If I could, I would. Thank you.....

  • God Bless You, One Medic To Another.

  • RIP Thank you for the service of our great nation, god bless her family as well as her - future (hopefully) combat medic

  • I just joined the Army as a medic and if I should die during my service I pray I go saving the life of a fellow soldier. God bless your family and your daughter.

  • Good luck, kid. Have fun at Fort Sam.

  • I went to the same school as her, it is hard to imagine somebody that has grown up in my neighborhood was killed in an IED in Iraq.. I sometimes wonder about the memories she thought about from back home.. like the Dells.. and fun times in a teachers class like Mr. Nelsons.. or walking around the capitol area. The only time I know I have seen Rachel was when I saw her funeral procession. RIP Rachel, from a wannabe11b and a fellow Mad towner/Wisconsinite.

  • You are now on the other side and your worries of this woeful world are over. Thank you for the work of bringing peace and comfort to your fellow soldiers and to the Iraqi's and the enemy in times of need. Thank you Army Medic! Warrior 15 PAPA....OUT!

  • Haha makes me laugh how you all say God bless, Gods not going to help you in combat.

It takes real guts to be a medic and cant wait to join as a medic.

  • you are in for a big suprise if you think it's fun and games i want to bea medic too but you need to realize the dangers and by your comment it doesn't seem like you realize them that well.

  • So dont you dare assume I am in it for a laugh and a bloody good time!

I was merely pointing out the fact that God will not save you in a police conflict, dare you even call it a war.

  • Ma'am,

God picked my daughter to join him, and He did it for a reason.

PLEASE DO NOT bring your political beliefs into this Memorial...this is NOT the place, or the time for this type of discussion! I respect your opinion but again, take it elseware.

My daughter deserves the respect and admiration she is due, for her selflesness, and for caring about others no matter who they are, or were they come from.

    Respectfully,

    Rachael's Dad

  • @gascustodian Hooah! She's in a better place now.

  • @gascustodian

I am truly sorry for what happened to your daughter and I hope that she will find her peace in heaven.

  • God Bless !

  • From a fellow medic, you have my deepest empathy. A medic doesn't put them self before others, always the opposite. A medic is a special being, it takes a big heart. Three names have been yelled on the battlefield in time of crisis throughout history, God, Mother, and Medic... Bless them all, bless her.

  • GodBless Sis hooah

  • God Bless you Rachel. MEDICS LEAD THE WAY HOOAH!!!!

  • @dockreth well, medics patch the way haha

  • Last year I became very interested in the military. At first it was from solely a curious stand-point. I am 26 years old, male, and have been a left-leaning "anti-war" personality type for... my conscious adult life. I wanted to see the perspective of this war from the soliders involved.

6 months ago or so I found this video. It moved me so profoundly to see your daughter, in all her normalcy, proudly give her life for her fellow soliders.

  • Comment removed

  • For 6 months I have thought about this video. When I learned how to exercise, when I quit smoking cigarettes, and when I told my family of what I wanted to do with my life now.

Monday I head off to enlist for the US Army active duty with the goal of 68W. I just wanted you and your family to know that your daughter continues to inspire and move people to be more and do more. Thank you.

  • I live less than 100 feet from where she is standing in this video, Summerall sucks. god bless her for what she went through. our TOC is named after her. thanks for everthing

  • Lets thank god that such a wonderful woman lived. I am sure she saved many.

  • May she rest in peace, she must've been a brave and caring soldier medic.

  • I just graduated AIT 68W school in Ft Sam. My unit is on alert to deploy also an MP unit. I hope to be strong and brave for my soldiers as your Daughter was.

  • Your Daughter is a true American hero I am very sory for your loss! May she have the protection of all of the angels in heaven! God speed!

  • What do you mean when you say "She knew she wouldn't be coming back alive"? Did she just have that gut feeling?

  • It was a gut feeling... She told her mother (my wife) while on R & R that she just knew she wouldn't be coming back alive :(

  • Dear sir,i have just joined the territorial army in the uk as a combat medical technician,i am 38 years old and considered by most as past my prime. The british army relies heavily on TA/reserve medics and as i have explained to my parents there is a 50% chance within two years i will go to afghanistan.I would just like to say how sorry i am to learn of your daughters death and hope that you can take some comfort in the fact that in the midst of hell she brought comfort to the suffering.RIP

  • gascustodian-- I am also a Combat medic, and I had that same gut feeling that I wouldnt be coming back, I sat down with my pastor and laid out arrangements for funeral so I wouldnt burden my family with anymore grief. It was a very surreal time for me.

All I could think about was what my family would do without me, and how I could best manage the situation for their sake.

  • gascustodian-

Where the true character of your daughter shines is that in spite of her premontion, she held her head high, refused to let fear overwhelm her, and she carried on with her duty to her fellow Soldiers as a Combat Medic giving them comfort just by them knowing that she was their with them in case things got bad.

Your daughter is a Hero, and She is in my prayers, please pass this message along to your wife.

  • I am planning on becoming an army medic but I hate killing, Do I have to kill people? The only reason I want to join is my sympathy for the soldiers with ptsd and the wounded. I'm much a pacifist, can I get away without killing anyone?

My grandfather served in the RAF and his father was a red cross medic, I just don't like the killing.

  • Young man, I highly suggest that you do some research on the Combat Medic so you understand what your getting into, then come back and talk to me.

Btw, she was never put in that position, but I assure you, she would have if the sitution warranted it!

NOTHING WAS MORE IMPORTANT TO THE COMBAT MEDIC, AND TO HER THAN " HER GUYS ANS GALS," not even her own life!!!

  • I am not trying to label our servicemen and servicewomen murderers, far from it. I have nothing but deep reverence for those on the front lines, but I don't want to participate in killing. Do you know whether or not the red cross help the soldiers out there? because that is what I wish to do.

Are the medics protected by the geneva convention that states that firing on medics is a war crime? then again I hardly think a terrorist will obey this.

I apologize If I came across as disrespectful .

  • Son, I didn't take it in a disrespectful way, and I know you didn't mean they are murderers.

The Red Cross does help by notifying families that their loved one was injured, and helps them in certain ways. Give them a call and ask what you can do.

I want you to understand that a Combat Medic's first priority is to protect and treat their patient. If that means killing someone, or die trying, that is what they must do!

Yes the Geneva Convention states that firing on a Medic IS a war crime...

  • This has NEVER stopped a Terrorist from firing on Medics. They do it regularly.

Again, I would higly suggest that you do an online research on the Combat Medic/Corpsman. There is a lot out there to research. This will answer a lot of your Q's.

Btw, Medics don't run from battle...they run into the line of fire if necessary.

My daughter pulled her SSG out of a burning Humvee with rounds and grenades cooking off inside it. She was awarded the Bronze Star for her actions, saving her SSG's life!

  • sorry for your loss, I'm sure she was an excellent medic

  • I cannot even begin to put into words how much I admire her courage. Let her be an aspiration to all combat medics, including myself.

  • Sorry I did not mean to cause any offence what so ever to this memorial.

I admire your daughters courage and what she did over there for our troops, and also every other combat medic that are risking their lives every day.

I respect what your daughter did for us, and along with every combat medic she is a true hero and saved the lives of many!! "Only the dead have seen the end of war" Plato

Again, Im sorry to be so disrespectful.

  • don't be a medic if you can't ever pull the trigger

  • Sleep well sister..your work is done.

  • God is watching over you. Make it home safe and bring every one back safely.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. She may have had a short life, but she did something that really mattered with it.

  • God Bless you and thank you! I'm glad that you always kept your battle buddies safety in your heart before your own, that's what true medics due. Damn good medic.

  • Army medics, THANKYOU.

  • rest in peace soldier medic, may this war end soon.

  • Remembering all the brave servicemen and women across the world, today on Remembrance Day (UK)....To those who so bravely laid down their lives for their fellowman RIP.

  • GOD BLESS,

AND MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.

You will always be in our hearts.

  • good bye solider medic, good to know that you worked your best to preserve the fighting strength of your fellow troops. You who gave your all, let none who never have felt the pain, experianced a loss so great, or served a cause bigger then themselves take heed against those they do not understand.

    HOOOAAH 68W's ...

  • R.I.P i want to be a combat medic technician and this jsut makes me feel more determined thank you xx

  • Your welcome young lady! This is another reason I posted this vid...to inspire Soldiers to always do their best, and to volunteer to do the hard thingd that must be done.
