Oh yeah, between this and Wilson Phillips and even some of the Amy Grant of the time it's clearly obvious that something was happening in music around that time. Yeah, some of the tunes may have been feminine, but they were unique and arguably better than most music of today. I'm a 27 year old dude and I can dig this song. There is a universal appeal with this sound, and it's a sound of a simpler time. I just wonder, were those walls made of sheetrock or concrete block?
this song is raw dog fckng badass I blast it on my 15"s in the ghetto all the time and dudes slinging rocks be like bobbing their heads and breakdancing
@MrKRH74 lol I'm sorry. That sounds really depressing. I was 4, now I'm 25. Seems like this time period was a dream. No joke. But hey, those times are gone, we gotta learn to love these days. But there will never be music like this again...

For me, it's the BEST one-sided love song ever sung ... exactly reflects the way I've felt for someone so distant and unreachable...and will have to be content watching him from a distance.
One thing I remember about the early 90's, when Beverly Hills 90210 came out, there was a rebirth of pop music that came from the 90210 package. Cathy Dennis was one of those artist I really like, along Color Me Bad and Bryan McKnight. There was a lot of good artists contribute to the rebirth of Pop music, and a lot of them was really good before they spin into Hip-Hop, then hardcore Street Rap, then Grunge in the mid and late 90's. When Britney came around, Pop music became too pop tarty.
This was part of the 80s with the psychedlic furs such a class act along with this song now its like Rome the music world has been sacked by junky music now
Was such a big hit back then!!!! You never hear this anymore! I sure hope when the 90s revival starts, this gets some representation. It made #1 adult contemp. for crying out loud!!!
Please activate the option for mobile phones, so that this great song is also viewable on android mobile phones and especially on android tablet PCs (Youtube: "My uploaded videos - Edit - Broadcasting and Sharing Options - Syndication – Yes, make this video available on mobile phones and TV … - Save Changes").

Klackkendoll82, you have great taste in music ! I like your Channel too !
This is a great song from Cathy Dennis. In 1991, when her "Just Another Dream" video came out, I knew right away she would be one of my favorite artists. Well, she became my ultimate favorite singer / songwriter for 20 years !!! Cathy Dennis is brilliant. She writes songs for Sophie Ellis-Bextor, like "Catch you" for example.
I wish she would make more albums. There are still ALOT of fans out there !
I love the pattern of the verse: the way she makes that first statement rather matter of fact, then follows it up by squeezing out greater sentimentality in the next line that follows, subtly hammers in the power of her inner feelings. Like she really feels what she's saying and she's doing this to build a bank of energy for the future that she is waiting for. Facing walls and realizing what strength comes from within and to hell with all else. Walls can be crumbled. The song is an affirmation!
@ballbuster2444 Check out Colby Caillat. I'm not saying she's the same as this artist and this song is really special. Still, I think you may enjoy her music.
i thought this song was on at the food lion a few nights ago, totally different song was on but i was singing this anyway. i remembered a lot of the words too.
I never knew who sang it but I've always heard it someplace like the supermarket...I couldn't even place the year it came out...
I finally heard it again the other night (in the fruit store) and I found it after doing lyric searches on Google for 20 minutes tonight... Cathy has a sweet voice, kind of like Suzanne Vega...Sounds wholesome and innocent... in a mean world...

Ths takes me back to 1991 in the last few months of Operation Desert Storm. This song provided a wonderful distraction from the winds of war, and I was in Air Force Reserve, could have been called to active duty, but wasn't. It was a time of this country pulling together through that conflict, possibly somewhat like the unity we had durinbg WW II. We will likely not see that again. Thanks for singing this beautiful song, Cathy.
This song is symbolic, yes, SYMBOLIC of my 9th birthday back in 1991, one of the most happy + essential times of my life ! ! Can't really make a judgement about the song objectively though, it's the memories that count !
I was in junior high when this song came out; 14 years old, trying to figure out what being a teenager was going to mean for me. I was an introspective bookworm who lived much of her life in her own head. Songs like this "spoke" to me.
Good lord 1991! The lyrics just happened to pop into my head and reflected a moment and place in time. Can't believe its been over 19 years since I last heard this track; still sounds great though :-D (Hello Cathy) Thanks for sharing.
@ScienceProjek LOL I'm probably guessing Cathy's early 90s counterpart, Tommy Page (1990 #1 hit I'll Be Your Everything) introduced Tisdale to this song because he writes & produces now.

the fact that i still dig this song about 18-20 years after listening back in the 90s, goes to prove how much i love it. love you cathy. keep the music flowing...
This brings me back to 1994, when I rode around in the back of a Dodge Caravan with my baby sister and listened to my mom singing everything that played on the radio, including this. Good times.
left-over 80's music...that's what i call songs that sound like they should have been released in the 80's but was just a bit late getting there...great song anyway!
Disagree. To me this sounds like a late 90s song (like jewel, sarah mclachlan style), but it arrived a few years earlier during the age of dance music. It's also very similar to the type of music Mariah Carey used to sing during the 90s.
@harleykman I disagree, I don't think it sounds anything like Mariah Carey. Her ballads were very r&b this is straight up pop and sounds very dated (like a lot of MC's early stuff) but it's still great! And Harley, she wrote a few songs for Kylie Minogue too!
@jupiteravatar The turn of the 90s decade was like that for music. It still had elements of that 80s feel. I think that's the case of most decades. I'm still waiting for the 2000s style to just go away, but it seems like it keeps on getting worst for music.
My husband and I were in London and had a fight in our hotel room. He walked out and I turned on the tele and saw Cathy Dennis doing this song for the first time on a music/dance show. I sat on the bed and cried with the perfect song for the time and I tear up every time I hear it. It's now on my IPOD for my husband and I to listen to.

Thi song reminds me of my first job. It used to play on the radio quite often. I think I was 16 or 17 at the time. I've loved it ever since.

@jupiteravatar
Disagree. To me this sounds like a late 90s song (like jewel, sarah mclachlan style), but it arrived a few years earlier during the age of dance music. It's also very similar to the type of music Mariah Carey used to sing during the 90s.

P.S. Cathy Dennis also wrote a lot of similar songs for the group S Club 7 (late 90s).
