  • Finland Suomi Berkelle

  • @Staureid you mean Perkele?

  • Britti-aksentti erottuu aika hyvin jossain kohti ("Go home, those") tykkään (:

  • heh, sorry you don't have a typical finnish accent. You are past typical finnish accents already. And for your information I am finnish too. You sound more british than american. I sound american compared to you, been mistaken for one even though I think you can hear a slight finnish accent in my english too.

  • I'm American, lived here all my life. If you hadn't said you were Finnish, I would've have thought it sounds like a mix between English (British) and something Scandinavian. I watch a lot of foreign films, often Swedish, but I can't distinguish between various Scandinavian accents. I don't hear American. It's a lovely accent, by the way, and you have a lovely speaking voice.

  • @tenagnek okay, first thing i need to bitch about: finland is not part of scandinavia :D so i'm not sure can you say 'scandinavian'...? but thank you lots!:) oh really? i don't get to hear that too often...

  • @nannaew Sorry about that- to clarify, what I meant was that I would have had the impression of some Scandinavian accent mixed with and English accent. I didn't mean to imply that Finland was Scandinavian. When will the project conclude, and when will the film be completed- do you know?

  • @tenagnek i'm not completely sure that does it ''end'' in anyway... search worldwide accent project and watch the starting video and you'll get it...

  • @tenagnek Finnish is really different, it's not in the same language family like English and Swedish,Indo-European_languages. Finnish language is Finno-Ugric

  • @nannaew Well strictly, you're right. Finland is included in "Fennoscandia/-navia" and "Nordic countries", though most likely more than half of Finns would still consider Finland as a part of Scandinavia, so to tenagnek, this is very common mistake.

  • @nannaew Finland isn't part of Scandinavia, but to an American (like myself) the accent sounds very Scandinavian/Nordic. Although, I think I can pick out the differences between the Scandinavian countries and Finnish. To me anyway, your R's and L's sound a bit closer to Russian or Eastern European, but the articulation and grammar is kind of Swedish sounding.

  • @nannaew Scandinavian peninsula is just Sweden and Norway, scandic languages means Danish,Icelandic,Norwegian and Swedish.

Scandinavian culture means also finnish culture, because our history in the middle age was connected with the power of church.

  • sounds way Finnish to me!

  • Out of 10 friends of yours in Finland, how many speak English? Not looking for official stats or anything, but I want to know how frequently do you all speak English..

Do Finnish people converse in English in the presence of Foreigners in a group, or stick to Finnish? Thanks..

  • @philid123

Out of her age people 8/10 (arbitrary) should understand and able to respond something, many speak English surprisingly well. People older than ~40 might have harder time with English, but still should understand many things you say. Finns are usually quite shy and hospitable among foreigners, so we mostly try to speak English if there's foreigner around. We have very good language education and English is part of our lives through computer, television, loanwords etc.

  • @philid123 We have English in our schoolsystem, so almost everyone can speak at least a little bit English. But the most Finns are really shy and unsecure, so be prepared for that :)

  • @xJannixx By shy and unsecure, do they try to avoid all sorts of contact? Cause, I'm also a shy person and I'm just wondering how 2 shy people try to communicate something out there..

  • @philid123 hmm.. well if we're talking about MY friends, maybe 5/10 speak fluent english, or atleast they understand it perfectly, but then there's the other half that always ask me to translate :D and foreign people in finland (who live here) speak quite good finnish so there's no need to talk english with them...

  • iha vitun kaunis joo :P

  • @themikezu1 haistan sarkasmia...

  • @nannaew ei ole

  • @themikezu1 ai? no kiits!:D

  • @nannaew :D ei mtn :)

  • Sä puhut just hyvää englantii! :)

  • Puhut tosi hyvää englantia, ei käytännössä yhtään aksenttia. BTW, oot aika sympaattinen tyttö.

  • no sä oot tosi kaunis! :P

  • does this girl think shes black?

  • @dresen10 You don't have to be black to have dreads. LOL

  • @SuperCarebearKiller just filthy.

  • @Cennedi No. Most of the cleanest people I've met have dreads. There are many ways to get dreads without being filthy.

  • @dresen10 yeah, having synthetic_dreads makes me want to be black?=)

  • ihan tollasta normi suomalainen puhuu englantia... aika samanlaista on mitä itekin vetää jossain jos on ollut tarvis :D. ei huono. Ja tuli muuten kierosti juuri kehuttua itseänikin.

  • Jaakko "Isvaffel" Jarvinen

  • Your accent sometimes sounds American and sometimes sounds British. For example, the word "can't"-

    American: A as in "man"

    British: A as in "awesome"

  • @repsesper Usually we Finns don't really separate the two different ways of speaking english, in my experience at least, so we tend to use sort of a "mixed" english.

  • @HiltsuPeku Oh, I can absolutely hear it. And it really is about half and half. I find it rather interesting to listen to.

  • @repsesper you're right! i think it's because in school we learn to pronounce everything with british accent, so i'm a bit influenced by that. but then all the music i listen to is pronounced with american accent! :D

  • @nannaew You are onto something there. Something about the American accent is very conducive to lots of kinds of music.

  • @repsesper British: oh as in "hot"

  • Vähä sä oot kaunis o:

  • @EnOleOutoOlenUniikki äläs nyt höpsötä!:o

  • You sounded pretty good to me i hardly hear your accent!

  • nice ...

  • En kyllä osaa tohon mitään korjauksia sanoa, ku ei oo englanti äidinkielenä, mutta tosi hyvältä kuulosti!

  • @KimmoTyyli kiitti hei!:)

  • Look for "Paasikivi puhuu englantia" in youtube.

  • @TulilaSalome oliko yhtä paha?

  • @nannaew katso ite ;)

  • where do you live??..... :)

  • hardly any accent! fraud! disappointing!

  • @Skelros good thing 4 me, bad 4 you :) sorry to disappoint you.

  • @nannaew

    =((( !!

  • Is estonian similar to the Finnish language? They don't come from Indo-European like most of the European languages do.

  • @filhodovento20 yes, finnish and estonian sound quite similar and we have alot of common, but we have as much differences as things we have common... and you're right again, finnish, estonian and hungarian are finno-ugric languages. estonian is a little more rare than finnish because it has only 1,1 million people speaking it. finnish language has about 5,2 million :)

  • Mää jo mietin että puhuuko tos joku amerikkalainen mut perhana oli se suomailainen :D

  • @Huuaarjuu hahaha! makeeta! :D:D

  • vittu sä puhut ja lausut kadehdittavan hyvin englantia. ja just jotain britti- ja amerikan aksentin väliltä, mun mielestä. ei niinkun ollenkaa kuulosta tai tajuis heti et suomalainenhan se siinä right. :D

  • @Korqpu oi vittu, kiitos! :) joo, jälkeenpäin oon itekki huomannu ton että välillä jotain random brittikorostuksia ja siellä-sun-täällä jotain jenkkiaksenttia :D kiitos kommentistas (:

  • OOT NÄTTI

  • nice accent

  • your accent is so pretty (:

    and your english is perfect

  • Your accent is not very strong. I would like to hear the Finniahs language also.

  • well... i have a more finnish accent than u. and i dont even speak finnish

  • @xXjesperoXx should i take that as a compliment or..? :D

  • @nannaew yes you should =)

  • xDD tulee kylmiä värejä :D

  • @pykset en ihmettele :D;:D

  • trees

  • Your accent had a slight american twang to it for most of it, with a very English twist towards the end - particularly on the word aunt, which sounded very posh! Nonetheless, a lovely accent.

  • @Leeroythegreat now when you said it... now i can hear it myself :D and thank you for your lovely comment :)

  • täydellinen! :DDD <3333333
