With gas prices about to go over $4 a gallon, I can only guess how many of these "El Camino" replacements will sit on dealer lots, with $3000 discounts as they try to move them. I will stick with GM's more intelligent cars, such as the new Malibu hybrid which pays for itself in gas savings in under 3 years.

This summer it may happen for everyone. Right now in NYC you cannot get it cheaper than $3.85 - not much of a stretch for $4. Don't worry, I guarantee I will be proven right by this summer... just wait and see. Unless the economics change this year from past years, by the end of may we should gain another 50 cents a gallon (approximately). No guarantees, but it is very likely.

You do see a difference between a 2-seat sport car-truck and a 4-door, family car, right? Youre the one scared of gas prices and probably dont favor performance over economical; in some cases performance can be economical. Do your history on the ElCamino and youll hopefully see that this one will be more than welcomed, especially with a V8. It's not aimed at you, you probably wouldnt buy a HEMI because $4/gal gives you a heartattack. Its for those who like performance and want some utility.

No, but I am in support of a company that can make money and actually surive. I own a GM product, but at the rate they are going and all the news reports, more cars like the ones being described here will just mean bankruptcy. So many people want those Chevy Suburbans, Tahoes, and other large trucks that GM is closing four plants that make them in the next 48 months. It is great they can make sexy, V8 cars that you enjoy but reality is, you are in the minortiy. Good luck with a bankrupt company.

Who needs a hybrid? I own a GM product that is NOT a hybrid, yet I average 36 mpg on the highway (it is a Saab 9-3 4 cyl turbo) that has over 200 horsepower. GM has the parts to make great cars, with a lot of hp, without building massive V8s that they cannot sell. Sales are down about 20% this month. Honda, up 2%. One month is not a trend, but honestly, who do you think is doing better with designs that people want?

Go back, your 1st comment was youll wait for the Malibu Hybrid; so I guess you do. You have 9-3 2.0T in which maybe youre using premium. If not, thats why you average 36mpg. There are us who want the small-block GMV8 and gas for it doesnt scare us. Its not the designs that people want its the fuel savings. That Prius looks like a massive aerodynamic lump but because it can maybe get up to 50mpg dealerships are devoid of them. Theres nothing wrong with a V8 in a car but in large SUVs its stupid.

You are right, I am waiting for a chevy hybrid for a second car. The Saab 9-3 2.0T has a 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds, which is not going to blow the doors off of anything but gets me where I need to go. I don't know if you saw the reports today, but GM is in such bad shape that they are looking at selling off Buick, Saturn, Pontiac, and/or Saab.  All of these divisions have less than 2% marketshare. This debate may be moot because this car may never see the light of day as a GM model.

Now, these crossover SUVs can carry as many people as these Large V8 SUVs and use a 6cyl. Theres no use for them anymore, unless you just want to be an all-a-sudden showoff and/or put rims on them. Discontinue those, since the factories are down where theyre built and make some RWD cars with opt V8 engines and your sales will return. Its that simple. And for further gas savings, if not performance, make those engines direct-injected. The CTS already has a D-I V6, so the technology is there.

Interesting, the cross over SUVs that GM is selling is one of the few successes they are having right now with those very 6 cylinders you describe right here. The discounts in the huge 72 hour sale that GM is talking about, don't apply to the GMC Arcadia, Saturn Outlook, or Buick Enclave. In fact for Buick and Saturn, this is the only model selling. The problem is V8 cars are not wanted by most people. The Ford Mustang is sitting on dealers lots, except for 6 cyl cars which are still selling.

Amazing...the only fact in that statement were the models not included in the 72hr sale, only because the Acadia, Enclave, and Outlook are 09 models; the sale is for 08 models. Did you get the sales figures for Saturn and see that the I4 Aura, the I4 Vue, and the Sky arent selling? You need to stop the assumption that EVERYONE is afraid of a V8; its just you. The Mustang comes as a V6 also, so its not collecting dust on the lots either. If it gets at least 25mpg on the highway, its saleable.

Buicks wont sell because its an old/old persons division. Even the names LaCrosse & Lucerne sound old. Something fresh like the Enclave (which doesnt sound old) is what that division needed. For them to target a younger demographic, their designs, prices, and marketing dont reflect it. Thats why they dont sell. Chrysler 300 kills the Lucerne; FiveHundred/Taurus & Montego/Sable kills the Lucerne. GM should have discontinued Buick, not Oldsmobile. There was youth and potential in Oldsmobile.

Buick does not sell in the USA, but it sells like hotcakes in China. It is why that car brand is still around and Oldsmobile is not. Oldsmobile had better cars in the end, but not the global sales Buick does. Look at Buick China, and you will see a larger number of models offered and better cars. I don't disagree about any of the cars you mention killing the Lucerne, so what? Since when was the Lucere brought up? Ironically, that & the 300 are the only ones you list that has a V8 engine still.

All you have to do is look up China car crash tests on YT & youll see why Buicks would sell. China was also responsible for lead-painted toys & dog food recalls. A Buick or any other GM as a big seller in China isnt significant big news, nor a valid arguement. GM, FoMoCo, and Chrysler LLC did the American consumer wrong by building cheap stuff & for that, I hope the imports keep outselling them. And since youre in a research mood, check the other engines for the Lucerne and 300. Oh look, V6s.

US Top Gear will have to have many years on the air before it can even begin to reach the succes of the UK version.

You cant get that connection between the hosts as you have with the three UK hosts in the first program.

And NBC doesent have government funding like Top Gear has from the BBC.

So im not expecting even half as much from the US version until atleast a couple of years, when you begin to know the hosts.
