Both Carbo and Brownlee sound really good here. Just saw this production twice today in LA, once with Gunn and Florez. I have to say the production itself annoyed the hell out of me. So much gratuitous, often senseless, and usually distracting stage busy-ness all the way through. I finally just looked through my glasses most of the time so I could shut out all the nonsense in the background. Musically it was great, but that was in spite of the production, which didn't seem to trust the music.
Sorry, not talking about your taste in singers, just your understanding of the Opera business. Check out the prologue from 'Pagliacci' on youtube if you wanna see 'second hand.'
Great singing. Not far behind the really famous singers. But... the used dresses and staging from the Florez/Spagnoli version? Figaro, the second-hand shop owner?

Both virtuoso singer/performers. Magic on stage. I would have loved to have been there to watch the whole opera.
