I'm actually preffering this to the path that Richard has gone down since they split up again. Although some of his latest tunes are amazing, they don't quite come close to his past solo work or that of The Verves. It's just a shame Pete Salisbury isn't on the scene anymore.
Love those string phrases, a rather eerie atmospheric power frankly, and the overall feeling of psychedelia mixed in with the previous form of the musicians involved is top quality...Nick McCabe is a guitarist that has been overlooked for a long time, and that isn't right is it ?. Not only can he technically play the guitar he can create an atmospheric landscape with it as well, and that makes him a guitar players guitar player if you see what I mean...Hendrix was the same...G...
I'm a big Verve fan and I was really excited to read all the comments about how great this song is... yet I thought this song SUCKED!!
The singer was terrible, the wating to hear him sing for over a minute... I was like sing already, then when I heard him I was like STOP signing already.
I guess I just don't do the right kind of drugs to like it.
However I see in the suggestions videos... ROLLING PEOPLE... now that's a SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The... "singer" is actually a woman! She is called Diamanda Gallas. She is pretty famous, you know. The song is truly great and it is an old Recoil track (Alan Wilder's - ex Depeche Mode - band).
You should probably check the facts just a little bit more before you post a comment like that. Just a friendly suggestion...
@Thomasknife69- It started annoying then when the guitar came @ :30 I was digging that Classic Verve Nick McCabe guitar sound. But then it just got worse & worse.
Believe me I wanted to like it, maybe their other songs will be better but thus far it only proves that Richard was the creative genius behind the band.
That being said, Richard without the band is NOT as good either. I think their break up years ago may have sealed their fate. They had the FIRE in their hands & PISSED it away
Even when they tried to get back together they could just never recapture their brilliance. The Lightning in the Bottle appears to be gone forever. Such a BUMMER!!! Their first albums were AMAZING!!!!!
Try visiting The Black Ships website. There is a 10 minute teaser for the album that will help you change your mind without "having" to like anything. You can find it here too.
Richard is one of the greatest singers and songwriters - although the RPA project is a total failure, at least in my opinion - but I always believed that the "creative genius" in the Verve is the band as a whole. When they are together there is no one else like them. It is such a shame that they broke up again.
@ :30 -1:05 before the singing- quite amazing but then went off the cliff.
Agreed, the Verve together are Truly a classic example of "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts."— Aristotle. Sadly there are moments of Magic in life & just because you did it once you think you can do it whenever you want but that's not always the case.
The Verve had Magic for a moment in time but after their breakup in 1998 they pissed off the Rock Gods & never got it back
they could give it uplift quality. its very good for what it is, but these guys really need to have lyrics more meaningfull... then they will become the best
I love this!! Seems like the guys are finally playing the stuff they wanted to! Free from the clutches of Ashcroft, these musicians can make something truly unique. The vocals are great too, the whole thing sounds fresh and exiting to me. Can't wait for more, this is my s**t right here!
@chronicreptile i see were your coming from m8 but i hate it when people say that bands are now free from ashcroft at the end of the day he is the greatest singer songwruter ever in my opinion and he has a gift from god 2 put down a melody
in my opinion, the ashcroft project (united nations of sound) is better. this is just noise, i don't like this... i like the musics that make you feel, this is... noise... nothing more than... noise. *IN MY OPINION
This is bizarre...The beginning of the song genuinely unnerved me. I..I don't really know what to make of it. I don't know if I like the vocalist and I think McCabe is maybe a little bit overly experimental. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love his style, but with the Verve he would write hooks and use solos and fade-outs to get crazy with; I think that worked well. It's a little difficult to grow attached to a song so disorderly.
Maybe I just need to give it a few more listens; we'll see =)
I love them!

This would be great if ever the stuff gets released. McCabe and the rest of the lads seem poor at actaully getting stuff out there.

This has a real dark, flipped out Funkadelic vibe. You don't need "meaning" when you're makin voodoo man!
