@albaniaismylife Are you for real? a railway locomotive absolutely NEEDS to be heavy, (in this case, about 120 metric tonnes) or it will not be able to move...it would only spin its wheels.

I like the sound of these engines. Even under a load they don't seem to run out of power. Must be over built.

I think these originally were designed to be much quieter, as an efficiency measure they removed the silencers. cool!

What's the vintage on this locomotive? Not familiar with European trains...

Circa 1960 - they have survived so long in fairly large numbers as they have a very low weight restriction so they're versatile and they've always been pretty reliable. That they're just about the best sounding european diesels (Delitcs excepted) is a bonus for us saddos

no, the 56 was the most powerful out of the old freight locos. Now of course it's the 66.
