  • Is this Estrella? Been a long time since I have been there but it sure reminds me of it?

  • *click* Co pilot to pilot....Wannnnnkkkeeeeerrrrr.

  • Sarajevo approach with ASK21 *__*

  • Ok a slip big deal any competent sailplane pilot is required to know how to perform this maneuver.

  • Oh my god I would have needed the half way with a god slip in the final approach. Waste on You Tube.

  • I'll try it out with my instructor tomorrow on our "Puchacz" glider :) Should I tell him before ? :)

  • ASK 21?

  • @petsell93 yeap

  • @limavadylad our plane for basic training ;-)

  • @petsell93 ive just went solo in one :) love them lol

  • i would reccormend the SZD 50 (i belive) Puchacz. 1000 ft. nose straigt down 190 km/t. because it can't overspeed when airbrakes are out.

it's also very fun doing it with your friends when they don't know it: "ehh aren't we a little hiiiAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

  • nice landing, but honestly , i wouldn't waste 800 feet for that. Keep it in the air as long as possible

  • @fotoavia what if they charged by the hour?

  • He landed half way down the runway!

  • Nothing Try a full slip w full dive brakes in a 2-33....even an L23(Blanik) comes down faster.

  • talk bout vertical drop.....i love flying....this shit is better than roller coasters!!!

  • Is that Tehachapi? Because it looks like it is.

  • Thats how I do it in flight simulator ;)

  • @Latvietis96 safety first right?

  • crazy Americans

  • thats a ASK 21, i fly thous

  • @K0S0s beginner on gliding? i learned too on an ask 21 its a very nice techjing plane^^ rigth now I#m on the ls4 and Discus gliders^^

  • @MrVAPilot Yea i am i love it, im so hooked, im 14 and i have to work to pay for my flying, check out my chanel, it has a video of me landing

  • @K0S0s what country? normally ask arwe used in germny specially ^^ I'm 16 thats my last year on gliders , next year starting PPL on props.

  • @MrVAPilot America, Down in Texas

  • Full dive brakes and a slip is the best way to do a TLAR approach. but this works too

  • Useless !

  • I have done a 700ft landing before in a Puchatek And L-13 Blanik. Too bad I cant fly the blaink for a while now. As long as you have enough runway and you keep your speed above 50 knots not allowing for headwind, you should be right to flare at your aiming point. :)

  • its a crowbar approach

  • pretty sure he heard that.

He's the one who said it.

  • Forward slip for the win!

  • space shuttle approach lol

  • damn........800ft landing nice!!!!!!! i done one from 600ft!

  • haha, you are crazy ones

  • This is called a "high parasitic drag approach." It is used to lose altitude fast without gaining too much speed. The parasitic drag of the glider with the spoilers open is so much that the kinetic energy of the plane is dissipated rapidly and landing can be done at manageable speeds. Useful to know, but it is always better to prepare your approach correctly so you don't have to lose so much altitude on final.

  • In the immortal words of John Denver in the video "Quiet Challenge", I LOVED IT! Thanks.

  • Do I need to get specific training license to fly a winch launched glider ? If yes , for how long the training may take ?

  • @True0Faith Winch is not difficult. You will need a few launches 5 for takeoff and another 5 for emergency.

  • In sweden you need to be 15 years old to fly, but you ned to be 16 to get the lisence to fly by your self. And we have to read some subejct first, like metheorology , aerodynamic and a few more subjects, after that you start to fly with a teacher and do about 60 starts and 60 exercises until your done.

  • The joy of airbrakes! :)

  • oh your glide looks horoble from the inside !

  • I don't get it....what it's so hot about this landing?

  • its a fucking STEEP aproach! if a normal airliner would do this you would fucking shit your pants :D

  • @FlyWithMeeeee The plane in this video is going down with a glide angle of about 60 degrees. If you are running out of oxygen at high altitude, or if a cloud is sucking you up, this is the way to come down fast. For the passenger it feels like the first drop of a very high roller coaster.

  • @SoaringHoosier How does it feel for the pilot?

  • @MINICLIPGAMER :)) The physical feeling is the same, however the pilot's brain knows what's going on and learns to ignore body signals. Also, the pilot recognizes he is in control of the plane and that he intends to start pulling to horizontal again. The passemger just hopes that the pilot knows what he's doing.

  • @SoaringHoosier true, when i was doing stall training, i never thought i could overcome the feeling and regain control. now after i learned to ignore it, its really fun.

  • @FlyWithMeeeee I think by hot he means fast. Take a look at the ASI. He is in the yellow arc on approach! Now that's cooking!

  • @FlyWithMeeeee may be because it's his first flight?

  • okaaaaaay :D ;D

  • HOLY CRAP!!!!

  • ALTITUDE ALTITUDE xD

  • Very cool!

  • Sink rate, sink rate.

    PULL UP PULL UP.

    :D :D :D

  • What airspeed did you top then? Bloody nice landing, though..!

  • did you pay for 2 landings,man ??? :)

  • Woo hoo - Nice landing.

Runway 27L - Same as at Heathrow.

  • The ASK21 has very efficient "Störklappen" or dive brakes - I've done a constant 90° vertical dive at about 250kmh from 5000fts

  • ASK 21 isnt it? ^^

  • Where is it?

  • Nice when people make a narrative in a video.

It makes it easyer to understand what is going on.

    Norway 15.May09

  • I crapped myself!

  • Stupid.

You will never be able to manage a correct speed when landing in a short field.

  • I thought short field landings required just this sort of skill - high approach and a steep descent.

  • Not so. The steep descent is only needed if the short field is surrounded by tall obstacles, like trees or power lines, and it is needed only in the last 100 feet after the obstacle has been cleared. There's never a need to make a high approach. If you ever HAVE to land like this you need to go back to flight school and refresh the section about planing landings. If you had to land in a short valley between two mountains, then you shouldn't have been flying there in the first place.

  • But that isn't the point... they weren't practicing a short field landing. They were having fun

  • Very nice, but why not lose some more altitude on the downwind before turning base. Is it because you want to keep as much altitude as possible before crossing the r/w threshold in case something goes wrong on approach? It would be fun to be in that cockpit--space shuttle approach indeed!

  • Nah - the drop in altitude with the speed brakes on full is fun - thats why :)

  • Nice

  • Nicely done! ask21?

  • ASK21.

  • awesome!

  • Brilliant!
