That's true of water turtles like red ear sliders.For box turtles the males usually have longer wider tails & they have an indentation on their plastron which aids them in balancing when they're mating.Also some box turtle species the males have bright red or orange eyes while the females have more brown eyes. :-) Red ear sliders use their long nails when courting a female.They swim backward in front of the female & wave their nails in her face.It's kinda funny to watch.
