I have a project of Maya, Modeled in maya using custom CGfx shaders..like yours but I have no idea how to make the environment for it by UDK. May can you help me?....link of tutorial..I really want to make my project like this final result. it's really amazing ( yours)
FUCKING AWESOME. Please make it a game, you know like knights, templar, crusader stuff, medieval epic game :D online where we sword fight and stuff :D that would be epic :D
If i could know who the one retard who disliked this is,i would kill him,go to his funeral and laugh about his death, right after i piss in his grave,ok maybe i am over exagarating... :D
GREAT work! May I ask how you textured the castle? Just tiling? Because I think I saw AO in there, which would mean everything must have its own material?
Wow good to see another aussie 3d artist. Can I ask how you created the terrain, I take it you didn't use just UDK heightmaps? Did you model this modularly, and build it inside udk, or completely build it in maya then import? Really hope you can help I need to break into the industry :(
I don't mean to insult you with this question or anything, but, would you be so kind as to provide a .udk of this level for benchmarking/educational purposes?
How in the world did you make such a massive environment! Did you run into performance issues? Are you using a very high end gaming computer? Did you go beyond LOD's, to make sure that the environment would run well? etc. This is amazing!
P.S. I don't actually know how well an average gaming computer could handle this, because my (allegedly good) computer is shitty when it comes to games. lol. I can only go so far with UDK, but I'm getting a new PC.
I have an Nvdia GTX280, a good graphics card not a very high end one. And the scene runs between 40 and 120 fps. One of the "secrets to run massive secenes is to reduce the ammount of shaders. Each visible shader (or material) will create a draw call and use memory. You can have a scene with a million triangles and just one shader, maybe you could even render 2 million or more.
The massive terrain with mountains (25k triangles) only uses one shader that blends four textures with vertex colors. The terrain near the castle uses 4 shaders, It worth the cost because is closer and allows me to show more detail and variety. All the castle's white stone is just one shader, the roof... just one shader and so on.
There is no more than 40 shaders in the whole scene. Some UDK maps have more than a hundred materials and use Lods, occlussion and other tricks to reduce the cost in some other way.
But as you say, this scene would'nt run in a shitty machine. You would need a good one but not an exeptional one.
@rlinfinity I wouldnt be surprised if it was, this is UDK afterall and the guy who made this must have a really powerful computer. If not though, it would have been rendered near-realtime using UDK's screen dump commands
Man...you are the man...I really like your work. Last week i been thinkin' what can i do whit a project that my chief drop on my hands and...I'm encountered your work and yea!!! your work it's my inspiration...so cool. (sorry about my english i'm talk spanish)
Cool! Hey man, don't you want to help me with my project? I'm working on videogame concept for 10 years now... A Fantasy and Sci-Fi RPG... "Please! Help me someone! I'm so desperate!"
@Zentai88 Dude, if you want to make a AAA title with a couple of people, you are nuts! It takes hundreds of artist a couple of years to work that shit out...
You worked on a concept for 10 years and still desperate for help, that clearly demonstrates your "professionalism". If you are pitching in an idea to a company, all they need is a written script. They might ask you for 5 min samples of how stuff looks. If they like it, they'll pick it up and give it to their team to develop
@69gothix69 Why I even care with answearing you, huh? I was working on it for 10 years, that doesn't necessary mean, that I was desperate to offer it to some company for all these years, it means I've work on these concepts to make them perfect and now I'm trying to do it real... You don't understand anything and you don't even know any part of it, so please, shut up already, will'ya? Thanksalot...
@Zentai88 Oh ok, what the hell do I know about it, I only worked in Environmental Art for 3 years now. Kids like you just make me laugh. The way you loose your temper shows your frustration and incompetence. You are the idiot who goes on youtube in desperate search for help. Go on polycount or other game forum and post a thread with a header "Need help with concept art". Have you pitched your idea to the company yet? Did they like it and asked for samples? No?, then stop and move to the next...
Absolutely gorgeous, though you should upload a HD version. Wanna share with me what the settings were for your light? I didn't think you could get such gorgeous effects with a single light source!!!
Bet that took longer than an afternoon, I really need Maya =(
Amazing castle + Shaders, all comes together fantasticly, Its a shame that when people play games they don't take notice of simple things like the waterfall in the background and stuff.
If you made this with UnrealED for UT2004 and uploaded somewhere I'd soon download the map =)
@RenegadeOfSociety Maya is best for animation, period. 3DS Max is Best for hard surface modelling. It def took more than an afternoon lol. But there is a smart way to cut corners and build everything faster, while retaining quality
@69gothix69 I disagree that Max is best at any one thing than Maya. I've heard the argument that Max has better poly tools before or its better for one thing than Maya is but it's not so, at least as far as technological and software capabilities. It's true that one application may be better at one thing than the other for a particular person, but not due to application capabilities. They are both incredibly powerful tools, it's the artist using them that gives them their limitations.
@ElectricEntertaiment Hehe, I'm not saying that certain tasks are limited to certain programs. It's just the workflow in Max for hardsurface modeling is faster, and therefore used more for game assets. Some tools in Maya are a lot more powerful than Max and could be easily used with proficiency. I was taught by Paul Neale, who actually worked in Autodesk to develop both programs, and by observing workflows of both programs it led me to my conclusion. Everybody has their own preference...
@69gothix69 Cool. Back in 99 I first tried blender for 3d, then 3DS Max, then I sent off for the 30 day trial from Alias Wavefront for Maya 3.0. For me the workflow of Maya was groundbreaking. Blender was clumsy and Max was really good but you HAD to do some things in order with the modifiers and such or it would trash your scene, then Maya was non-linear and I didn't have to learn the view port controls, it just felt natural. Just my preference, me and Maya have a history together so I'm Bias.
@69gothix69 Yeah and about the scene CreativeMatter1 made for UDK.... It is amazing. I love seeing incredible pieces like this it gives me inspiration and shows whats possible if you are devoted and love creating art.
This is probably some of the highest quality UDK work I have ever seen. In fact, it breaks the boundaries of what most people do with the engine to such an extent, it is hardly recognizable as Unreal 3.
I sure wish stuff like this was actually made in games. I mean, UDK/UE3 is very powerful tech, but it's mostly used to create horrifying worlds. The Mass Effect games are the only things that leap out at me as games that are "beautiful" built with this tech.
