  • Cold Turkey is FINALLY available on DVD!!!!

    Google "Amazon Cold Turkey DVD"

  • @CaptainOT It's on dvd-r..

  • I remember when I was a kid I had to choose either staying home and watching this, or going to the movies to see Cannonball Run. It was a tough decision.

    I chose Burt.

  • This is really due for a Broadway musical

    remake....!

  • For God sake let him smoke!

    LMAO.

Why oh why is this not on DVD? Sorrow.

  • rated GP?

  • @sexyshoes99

that is weird, must be guidance parental backwards

  • This movie was a crackup. I remember watching it at the drive in with my aunt and uncle.

  • The final scene in this trailer would of course be silenced!

David Chetley (a combination of David Brinkley and Chet Huntley) asked the president of the Valiant Tobacco Co. how he felt during the Cold Turkey project.

The tobacco executive cold-cocked Chetley and said, "I told you to leave me the f(bleep)k alone!"

When Chetley went to Eagle Rock, he was treated as a deity!

Other news personality spoofs in Cold Turkey were Walter Chronic, Arthur Lordly (Godfrey) and Paul Hardly (Harvey).

  • And "Hugh Upson" (Downs), and "Sandy Van Andy" (Sander Vanocur)... :-D

  • My favorite line from the movie:

"I'll tell that to a Communist when he H-bombs me! Before you H-bomb me, you go over to that man with a gun and get captured. You're a bullshit, Amos Bush!"

  • This is a very good movie--nowadays, I think it would be refreshing just because of the political incorrectness of smoking. When it was made, I think it was more the other way around...everyone smoked in the 70s...and I have to wonder why this film with a star-studded cast (Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, Tom Poston, Jan Stapleton, etc.) quietly sort of--disappeared. Big Tobacco, anyone?

  • As a smoker, I think that Turner Classic Movies should air this wonderful romp (my favorite movie) every year on the day of the Great American Smokeout!

  • I have looked for a copy of this for years. I come from Iowa and lived in the town where this was made it was filmed in and around Winterset Iowa and Greenfield Iowa. Let me know where to get a copy.

  • It's never been released on DVD, but can be had as a used video on auction sites, or at Amazon. I haven't seen a NEW video for years, and mine's wearing out. :(

  • Saw this as a little kid, my mom took me to this, haven't seen this since, what memories!!! KICK-ASS!!!

  • Community pride my foot!!! LOL LOL THANK GOD, I never smoked!!! I hear that nicotene is addictive but DAMN!!!

  • why did the company owner pay people to stop buying his ciggerettes

please tell me how i can see this movie

  • Because Merwin Wren, a public relations man for Valiant Tobacco (Bob Newhart) talked Valiant CEO Hiram Grayson (Edward Everett Horton in his last performance) into offering a reward that would make Grayson remembered along the lines of Alfred Nobel's peace prize.

Alfred Nobel was best known for making explosives, so it was reasoned that a tobacco executive who offered a prize to a town which would quit smoking would be affected as little as a war materiel maker that offered a peace prize.

  • They never expected that any town would actually be able to take them up on the offer. It was just supposed to be a PR stunt to make the company look magnanimous and civic-minded.

I know that's Paul Dooley as "Mike Walrus", but does anyone know who's playing "Hardly Reasonable"? (In the movie itself, of course, the newsmen were all played by the great comedy team of Bob & Ray.)

  • Thank U 4 posting this. This was one of my Mom & Dad's favorite movies. I love it!! It's hilarious!!

  • Just watched it again myself about a week ago. If there is one movie that could probably stand up to be re-made it would be this one if only because the anti-smoking push across the country has been at the forefront over recent years.

  • I like this movie. I've only seen bits & parts but think it's the funniest ever. This has an all-star cast, and evn though it came out almost 40 years ago,is better than anything now. Oh yeah, this movie is older than I am. I wanted to thank you for posting it because I've been considering purchasing it. There's a website selling a bootleg DVD. Bootleg is better than nothing. The old lady was the inspiration for the character on "Wait 'Till Your Father Gets Home." Post more of this. Thanks.

  • plese tell me how to see this movie they dont sell it in hmv. thanks

  • It isn't for sale. My parents recorded it off of t.v in the mid-to late 80's. It is extremely hard to find. I have never seen it for sale, anywhere. Good luck with your search!

  • i really want to see it but it only got one star off a movie review book

  • There's a website that has this on bootleg DVD. I plan on buying one. Email me if you want further directions.

  • This is one of the funniest movies ever

  • this looks really funny. I'll have to try and rent it sometime.
