Thanks, but that's not it. It looks a bit like those peel-off plastic covers you get on LCDs, but it's not. It is the permanent plastic coating over LCD and buttons, moulded on, as far as I can tell. And I can tell by having tried to remove it. Since it's a piece of rubbish anyway, I don't mind destructive testing, and I've just taken a craft knife to it.
