About the "voice thing"? Being a musician for many years, and a singer for that whole time, there are many factors that come into play. Your voice can sound different on different nights, in different climates, mics, sound men (good and bad), etc. I caught Dan halfway through TIA tour and his singing was not much better than here (and this... I consider pretty damn good). I saw him solo in Knoxville a couple years later, and it was pretty much the same.
I agree about his illness. This was filmed in August 2003 and Dan was diagnosed in April 2004 I think, so he may have been ill already, especialyy since his disease was already advanced when he was diagnosed. Either way, it's obvious Dan was trying his hardest for his fans. There will never be another one like him.
remember, this was when he was sick...maybe already diagnosed, maybe just before....this was a rough gig as you can see him struggle for some of the songs and I believe he even knew it wasn't his best and didn't want it out there for all the world to see after he left us. I believe this is the last time he did anything live. I may be wrong but i don't think so
This is an illegal video. It has to have been bootlegged or taped from TV. THIS VIDEO WAS NOT, I REITERATE NOT AUTHORIZED BY DAN FOGELBERG FOR RELEASE!!!! PLEASE REMOVE IMMEDIATELY!
I have always adored Dan; however, it is plainly obvious that his voice coarsened considerably during the last 15 yrs. or so of his career. Listen to any live performance from the mid-to-late 70s/early 80s, and compare this to any performance after '95 or so, and one can hear significant loss in range/quality. I think this is owing to the fact that because he had such a delicate voice, the aging process was especially tough on him.
I think they screwed up doing this program at the end of his tour. Dan's voice was about shot...too bad. I believe Dan was a perfectionist and maybe this wasn't up to his standards...I'm just sayin'...
Love it! I would say Heart Hotels is my favorite Dan song, but I have too many favorites to pick just one! :)
I would really love to buy the DVD of this concert! Why oh why did Dan not want this video released? From what I understand, his wife Jean, had to say no to Soundstage because Dan didn't want it released, even after his death.
I agree with ESW367......very very sad ....saw him live @ Hampton Coliseum in Va in the early 80's
