Too, the "rambling" he's being accused of has a lot to do with the fact that a heckler kept interrupting and making him justify his lecture. Which he did quite well, despite being "high", if he was high.
I don't believe (mere allegations) that he was drunk. I find the heckler to be suspect. Could the heckler have given this man pot food without his knowledge? The professor said at one point: "I seem to have memory problems today." That doesn't sound like someone who knows they're high. I believe he was high. He's clearly an intelligent man; would he knowingly do a lecture while high?
Yes, I'm replying to my own reply. Deal with it. To all who are familiar with the effects of marijuana: who are the folks who do not realize they're high?
Pot virgins. That's who. Hey, as long as we're going to make allegations of drunkenness, then let's consider some other possibilities, since that was never proven, hey?
I don't view it as picking... I thought it was more like responding (actually quite well) to a heckler. I think I know what you mean though, I just thought it was important to point out the heckler. I think the professor handled it nicely and tried to educate a provincialized brain---a brain that to my mind, was contrary and hostile to education. Imagine how Bill O'Reilly would have reacted. There may have been a beat down (that man is a hot head but that's another topic).
Howard John Hall was fired from the University of Florida. The University of Florida "Alligator" paper stated that he was drunk in class. (They've removed these links and even his personal page from their website.) They, in adminstrator-ese, called it "an untreated medical problem" which is code for "the creepy old idiot loved his liquor."
i read that this professor, dr. hall, has had some medical problems and was reinstated to teaching after they deemed him ok to teach again but after this, they pulled him out once again for re-evaluation. whether its true or not, i don't know.
LOL at the idiots who gave me a thumbs down on my comment.
Just google the whole thing, "Stone Professor". But do not hit the Search button yet - you'll get exactly 3 suggestions, one of which will tell you the professor name. Dr. John Hall.
He was fired afterwards btw.
And no, this was not a history class, but a business management class!
To be blunt, I didn't care for the event more or less.
I was actually a bit POd at the time, because this was towards the end of the semester. I had a B in the class before the final exam; if I got a 100% on the final, it would still have left me at a B. We had the option of "dropping" the lowest exam grade, so I dropped the final (which was technically a 0, the lowest grade).
Thanks for answering. Sorry you had that bad experience. Do you have a theory as to what was wrong with him? You may not know or care but it never hurts to ask. Maybe someone smelled alcohol on him. Most probably didn't get close enough to do that. Well I can't find anything on the net where he explains himself. So I may nevah know.
He was fired for weed, not alcohol to my knowledge. There was more to this lecture that was not captured by this video.
How the video leaked was this. Nobody in the class actually filmed it. It was not like Michael Richards, where the dude had a cell phone. Lectures for class are posted online (available to students only). Someone saved the video, and then leaked it. The school then took it off the server but it was too late. I was in class, but was off camera in this video.
I hoped my nosiness would pay off! I really appreciate you explaining this. You answered the very thing I (and probably a lot of other ppl) was curious about as well as some extra info. (Another commenter wanted to know why I was so interested, I am a nosey parker but that username was already taken so I had to transpose the consonants and deal with it.) Thanks again.
LOL, I got that much, man. Wow, so did you get refunded any cash for that lost day?
