Holy crap u treat ur e39 like crap! U should buy some new foglights and it seems like u dont wash it often so just do those simple tasks and your car will look nice again:) who know u might even be able to do another DIY video like that.....
I just did this.. I accidently sanded some of my paint, can somebody please tell me how to blend it to get rid of the ugly sand rash I have on my bumper now?? :(
so I did all this but scratch lines still seem a bit noticeable... is there anything i can do to buff them out? besides that they came out perfect!! i had already tried using toothpaste and that was a fail, thanks for uploading!
@jkmusik Its possible to make them much less noticeable if you used something around 250-400 grit, but anything less than 250 is likely scratched too deep to restore
I've never had a problem with a 'protective layer'. With this wetsanding and polishing method, you're baasically refinishing the headlight lense.
As for the second question, I have yet to do it a second time to that car as there's been no need, although some people have reported having to redo it a few months later.
i have few questions i would like to ask...first off, if you wet sand the headlights, doesn't it messed up the protection layer? and second, does the headlights stay clear like that or it gets dull few months later? im about to do my headlights and just making sure before doing it. thank you
Had some really yellow and ugly looking headlights on my 96 E39. Followed your logic .... Wet sanding with 1000 grit, then 2500 grit, and then used a 3M Plastic restorer with a buffer. The lights have come up perfect! Thank you!
For those of you who may be wondering how long it takes to sand/polish your headlights, after I had finished recording the video I went ahead and did the second headlight, which took me less than 5 minutes. Good luck to all!
Definitely makes a difference. I need to do this for my wife's Jeep.

@pablo2809
Regulaar sandpaper is what I used. Just make sure of the grit level of the sandpaper you are using.
