Japan didn't help Germany to fight against the Soviet Union and Italy was since the beginning of the war a completely useless ally. In fact these allys were not very helpful at all and this alliance caused more problems than Germany would have had on it's own.

Germany lost the First World War and was wrong to start it together with Austrians and the nazis didn't even exist in those times.

The war with Poland might very well have been avoided if Poland had agreed on Hitler's modest suggestion to have an exterritorial train and car connection to East Prussia and Danzig. Poland Was shutting the acces roads and there was massive violence against ethnic Germans, reportedly tens of thousands fled across the border to Germany, many were shot when trying. Poland was backed by Britain and France not to negotiate. They expected war, victory and annexations.

@TheVodkaChugger are you serious? if you are, at that moment Italy was nearly conquerde by the Allies and Japan was in difficulties itself, so they could not have helped, even if they wanted. Japan didn't help Germany to fight against the Soviet Union and Italy was since the beginning of the war a completely useless ally. In fact these allys were not very helpful at all and this alliance caused more problems than Germany would have had on it's own.

If Hitler never attacked Russia at least he wouldn't have TWO fronts to deal with. With America and Britain closing in from the west and Russia from the east it was a certain defeat.

... and a lot more ... but I think these are the critical fails

Germany lost the First World War and was wrong to start it together with Austrians and the nazis didn't even exist in those times.
In WW2 those were almost all German men who fought on all fronts while the other part of the nation was working in the factories producing weapons for them.
Germans looted whole Europe and used what they had stolen for their own profit.
Those were all of Germans.

The original Nazis weren't pathetic that's for sure, they didn't run around on streets with arms stuck in the air wearing a T-shirt with a large swastika and everyone has bold heads, maybe something else would describe them better, both are very different.
And no, the Wehrmacht committed much smaller war crimes than the SS, how could you say the Wehrmacht, which was mostly only used for fighting, commited more crimes than the SS!?

To me it's as pathetic as their today's behavior, although it looked a bit different.

It's a war, even the Americans (by which they deem themselves "good guys") shoot their eneies aswell, all countries did it, I mean it maybe horrid and even infact horrid doing so, but that is what soldiers are supposed to do in a battle!
And I doubt that sounds the same, killing the cops is different, they are first trying to capture the suspect and bring them to prison, and opposing soldiers are trying to kill you

Germany created enemies for itself and bears all the guilt for it.
Nobody attacked Germany in 1939, 1940, 1941 - but Germany attacked everyone.
Then - the goal. The Poles', Russians' etc.NOBLE goal for fighting Germans was to free their lands.
What was the goal of fighting for Germans in 1939, 1940 and 1941?

The war with Poland might very well have been avoided if Poland had agreed on Hitler's modest suggestion to have an exterritorial train and car connection to East Prussia and Danzig. Poland Was shutting the acces roads and there was massive violence against ethnic Germans, reportedly tens of thousands fled across the border to Germany, many were shot when trying. Poland was backed by Britain and France not to negotiate. They expected war, victory and annexations.

@FlashmanForever There is no doubt that the whole WW2 was organised by the UK and France was also indirectly forced into the war and into the British political games leading the whole continental Europe to a massive slaughter, although at the cost of some British casualties, which were minimal compared to those of the others.
Such violence against ethnic Germans started only after the German attack on Poland.
Germany should have annexed some Western Polish territories, not go to Warsaw.

@Heightofhate I understand that yes and in reality violence breeds violence - someone once said that to secure peace one has to prepare for war - whether that is realpolitik or empty posturing to promote the military industrial complex I do not know. Common sense and morality do not always appear to play much part in war or peace in the minds of powerful individuals and groups.

One thing that fascinates me and you can never know the consequences of altered history but I wonder this: Hitler would still have been a Dictator without the Second World War - he still would have caused untold misery (on a smaller scale if war had been averted) to the German people even if he had not displayed and expansionist or external military aggression I wonder how long he would have kept in power?

The misery was before Hitler - in the time right after the WW1. That was real misery!
Hitler brought Germany jobs, money, he stopped honoring unfair and humiliating truce agreements signed in the end of the WW1 etc.
Germany under Hitler became much more prosperous than it was before Hitler. And Hitler loved Germany with all his heart - and Germans were proud of him in the 30s as well, just watch the Olympics - do they look unhappy?

@Heightofhate Misery for some people surely? Hitler did indeed improve Germany's prestige and its economy - I do not say it was hell for everyone, but surely it was hell for some sections of society. Germans having pride in their country is understandable and in relation to the Olympics, the presentation of this prestigious event would not have been lost on Hitler. And ultimately WW2 was prosecuted under Hitler-surely that brought and wrought misery upon millions?

@coveneyr It was hell for some very, very, very small sections of the German sosciety. Maybe for 1%. There were only about 200,000 Germans put into concentration camps all in all. Out of 70 million!
Anyway, compared to the misery of the 20s, when 99% of the German society was not living but existing, poor, hungry and humiliated after a posh period before 1914, well, it was worse and Hitler incorporated this hysterical need for refenge and rebirth of the German nation which ended with a fall.
