A judge would probably side in the favor of MCSO if they can provide evidence of them actually proceeding in an ongoing investigation while you were filming them, especiaqlly as you just walked right up to them. You do have the legal right to film law enforcement officers while they are on duty, however if the law enforcement officer can provide evidence that your filming of him/her was disruptive to their official business, then you're screwed. I think you're SOL on this one...

I am not sure what the status is in Arizona, but some states are what is called "two party" states, in which to record someone, both you and the other party (in this case the cop) need to have knowledge of you filming.

If you know the laws in your area, and you are allowed to continue filming, keep filming. If the cops do it again make a huge scene and go down fighting (literally not physically). That way the more they do, the worse it looks and the more money you get in damages in court.

These films are both very good evidence towards an abuse of authority case. I would be filing formal complaints with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office along with the Arizona Attorney General's Office. Sheriff Joe's deputies have the same "I am above the law" attitude that he has. None of them acted professional in any way shape or form. Under no circumstance should they have made any comment about any racial profiling. These guys all suffer from "Big Guy With A Badge" syndrome.
