Let's face it: people who ski for leisure simply cannot experience the intimacy the sport has to offer the way die hards can. If you choose a resort based on its reputable lodging and off slope entertainment and cuisine, you're missing the point. It's better to stay at a hotel off of a freeway exit away from the resort, buy your own food from Hannafords and rent movies each evening and ski an exceptional mountain than it is to ski a pretty good mountain while staying at a slope side Ritz.
