The owl is the alien. It's the brain being so scared that it transforms the alien into an owl, they say so in the movie. Either it's the brain doing it, or the aliens. Either way, I cried.

Myself and many native people believe it is one or more cops that are disapearing them. They used to take drunk natives out of town in say -40 degree weather and just leave them for example.
