BR have a bad habit of burying some of their best work as B-sides and export-only tracks. This is easily one of my favorite post-holy trinity BR songs. The songwriting and frenetic performance are top notch.

The song portrays a sort of existential crisis. The "I" in the song realizes the truthful meaningless inherit in life but has rejected both a religious and scientific comfort blanket to explain his existence. He seems to believe that he, and humans in general, are "higher" beings in some sense (neither "simians" nor sinners made of "Clay", the "Better Than" chorus etc.). He seems to believe in some higher order or purpose for us but never says what, only rejects that we are the sum of our parts.

Believe it or not, it's been hiding on a fairly recent album! They have made about 10 albums in the last 4 years, and some of them sound like a totally different band (and not a very good one) but they keep coming back to the older BR style. In my present state and the state of the world, I hear this song and can't unclench my fists, and can't stop gritting my teeth, and the first couple times, I actually shed tears. It's pretty fucking intense, especially in light current events. It's pain.....
