I will agree that the party itself is screwed, but there are a lot og people in the party that are still trying to do good. The biggest problem with the GOP, in my opinion, is that so many have tried to meet the liberals halfway. Many have abandoned some of the core values of conservatism, and this has left the party broken, and yes, it needs to be cleansed.
Compromise CAN be good, but it isn't always good.

Socialism is this:

2: A system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state.
Obama already took the first steps in nationalizing our banks, and firing the CEO of a private company.

there's nothing wrong with the GOP, except for the fact that it's representatives are severely lacking at the moment. there will never be a "one party that pleases all", and for a lot of us, the GOP is the closest thing we have.
libertarian is looking pretty good lately, though. :)
