I think this is the clip from the movie about Hank Williams starring Warren Beatty. I've been wanting to see that old movie again for a long time. My Paw Paw would have loved this as he played and sang a lot of Tex's old songs and was from the same part of Texas as Tex Ritter came from. When those guys are gone (and there are few left) we will have lost a great legacy that gave this country so much.
i wish someone would post up the tex ritter song conversation with a gun it startes out come on over here you rusty forty fives how many man have you faced and left alive...i have it on cassette but its old and wont play i also have it on record 33's
@srp960 Can't believe Tex could have been ecstatic over his son's "career" or his persona. Tex was a manly man and his son was extremely effeminate, in my opinion. Never understood why that show was so popular. I suppose it was "Christy" that brought in the fans.
@Jody07984 The show Three's Company was extremely popular and even more so when the character Chrissy was replaced with the character Terry. We do not know how Tex would have reacted to his son's successful show. As far as John Ritter being effeminate?.....I don't see that at all. I think he acted the way he did
on the show to fit the part.....he certainly did act effeminate on other films he did.
If I'm not mistaken, he was the original singing cowboy in the movies long before Gene,Roy and all the rest. Roy Acuff was also a singing cowboy in the movies.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tex shortly before his death. We were gigging at a club in Toronto. He was sitting at the bar wearing a brown western style suit, his hat sitting on the stool next to him. His neatly combed hair slicked back. He was extremely polite and kindly to this rock and roller. I like him and his music very much.
well i will say this i grew up in the late 60's until now so i have heard alot of different music but nothing is ever as good as the old country so no dont let it bother u my friend
Supposedly, my grandpa(dad's side) used to play with Tex. Charles Reid, sometimes went by Gary, played guitar(rhythm maybe? I'm not sure) with him and a few others from what I'm told. Would anyone know about that by any chance?
Absolutely Marvelous!!! It dosen't get any better that this! How many of you are aware that Tex was the father of John Ritter of "Three's Company" fame? Just an F.Y.I. for ya'll.
i'm 17 and all of my friends my age laugh at me because i listen to music like this, and really enjoy it. my ipod is full of old songs, and i never have to worry about someone wanting to use it :P they hate the good old songs, and thats just fine with me. i smile and tell them that they dont know what they are missing. what great tales are told in these songs! thanks for adding this song. love it <3
@318artillery The old classic country songs and oldies are the best.. I just went to a Charley Pride concert and you could hear everything perfectly even if you didn't know the song well, the today's artists think they have to crank the accoustics up way loud to make it sound good then you can't hear the words Then what's the point of goin to the concert Like Barbara Mandrell said, country when country wasn't cool we need to say we're country when country isn't cool
@318artillery I agree with you 100% I love all these old songs and I'm only 20 these songs you can understand every word they say, new songs aren't like that, all those young people who don't like these don't know what there missing. Anthony Prince
@318artillery well you're 19 now. do you still like the same ol' stuff. i'm 22. and all my army buddies think i'm crazy for listenin to stuff like and jerry reed. so i have to play some new George Strait for them....and they like it.
@318artillery Never let anyone take away your enjoyment---your friends would not have the music they listen to without all of the tracks laid by greats like this---I too have alot of the "classics". It gave my dad and I nalot to talk about....he grew up with this music...now he has gone and listening to it makes me feel closer to him...keep enjoying!
I was a newspaper reporter and wrangled an assignment to cover the first Dripping Springs Reunion in 1972. Tex, who graduated from the University of Texas, attended a celebritity barbecue at the Driskill Hotel in Austin. I ate and visited with him. We talked about this song and also talked about his days in cowboy movies. At the reunion, I interviewed Waylon Jennings, Tom T. Hall and Roy Acuff. Loretta Lynn, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson were also there. It was a great assignment.
One of my favorites, pure country and original. I'm a big fan of the guitarist Wayne Gray, listen to the string pushing. He orginated the "git fiddle". He's great in Orange Blossum Special featuring the Git fiddle. You tube it, you'll love it.
Franielee I do feel indeed fortunate to have known the warm lovable man who was Tex Ritter. He was one of a kind. His lovely wife, Dorothy, was such a sweet snd caring lady ans his son, Tom, is just as kind a persom as his father. I'm sorry I had the privilege of neeting John on only one occasion but I still feel blessed by having known Tex and his family.
After s many years this still brings tears to my eyes. I am happy I can truthfull say that Tex was a personal friend of mine dating back to the 40's. There will never be another one like him. He will always have a place in my heart.
How God must decide who enters Heaven has to be with considering the good intentions of the soul, metered with their ability to understand right from wrong. IMO, there'll be many there who'd tried to do right as they saw it. Otherwise God could not be fair and just.
