Also the pilots were having problems keeping control of her so would have made it harder for them to keep in control plus with 2 engines out and her wing burning it would have been hard to try line her up on a road... I am 13 yrs and i am a big airplane fan. I love the concorde for the way it looks, the way it flies, everything about it. It's just a shame i could not see it. I wonder why they don't fly it anymore, because it was not human failure. ya the only reason this happened was because there were chunks of metal debris on the runway which fell off from previous planes. When the metal struck one of the back wheels of the concord, it caused the wheel to blow up and made the gas tank leak, thus the wings lit on fire and disinigrated. although it is only a theory, but it makes sense

You realise that is was in 2000. They made some safety modifications (But Concorde was perfectly safe before) just incase. The fault of this crash was mainly down to the part from the DC-10.

Concorde flew for another 2 years before being retired not because of safety or the crash but because of money and various other lousy reasons. Airbus just got tired of it and wanted to focus more on things like the a380.

Yes it was the end, becuse if this crash never happened, then they wouldnt have grounded all the flights and stuff like that. The concorde ended becuase of safety and rising costs. If they never crashed then the flights wouldnt have been cancelled/grounded. That way the flights would have been payed for as normal and so would have got the money to pay for the costs.

Concorde was not retired. It was temporarily grounded while investigations took place, although really it didn't have to be. While they were grounded, they had to maintain their fleets which costs money, and no ticket sales meant a loss. It did have an impact, but it was not the only reason for it. Concorde returned to service in 2001 until 2003 when it was retired due to cost. But BA would have gone on if Airbus hadn't forced them.

But it wasn't due to safety, it is perfectly safe.

NO! The crash did not directly kill it. IT IS SAFE. If it wasn't, then why the hell would they announce the retirement in April and fly on till November.

It is clear why it ended. Airbus was getting tired of it, Air France saw this as an opportunity to pull out and BA were forced out. BA has said many times before that they would have probably continued services if Airbus was willing to sacrifice the money.

The maintenance costs were only put up because Airbus was getting tired of it. As there was a small fleet, they could use their time, space and people more efficiently on projects such as the a380.

Air France never really made money from it and were looking for investors at the time. BA had done very well in the past and were doing alright at the time. Airbus refused to support BA alone thus forcing them out.

There was no pressure at all to pull out due to safety. It is safe
