  • Aaaaaaa I can't get it to point in the right direction. I'm making a elevator and when it should be on pointing on the right direction it just gets like this | instead of this _ so when I am going to enter the elevator i can't!!! Please help i'm been trying for 3 weeks now!!!

  • So i finally fixed the Train/Elevator.. And i had a button to open a door in it and a button to open a window.. And a button to move the train.. When i press a button my character freezes for like 1 - 2 seconds... And sometimes it only freezes while the button doesnt even respond... Is this normal ??

    i think it has something to do that your in the train.. because i have a button out side which isnt on the train and when i press it i dont freeze and doors open normally... Please help me God ofCS

  • With my elevator the trigger_once only works once and yes I have the only once option set to no

  • When I set output in my button i can't see the option "set speed". I set good entity and other things, what can be wrong?

  • @Qrorpl Try clicking 'apply' first and see if the options appear. What's the entity type that you're trying to make the output for? Is it definitely the func_tanktrain?

    And most important, You know the prop_static "nuke_car"? I want to make it a car that passes by in my city, which is an obstacle that you'll get killed by if you get hit by.

    He means "How do you select everything?". You hold down the "control" key while selecting the different parts and pieces.

  • @borje357 You could make an output in the last track node's properties, something along the lines of

    onpassed

    (name of train)

    reverse

    Hopefully this, or something along these lines, should work.

  • your tutorials help me massively with my maps, but using a func_movlinear is so much easier than a tanktrain/tracktrain

  • Hey 3kliksphilip! I've been having a problem where I made a landing craft, bound them all together as one, and then set the path nodes. It moves in the direction I want but facing to the left. How do I fix that? Thanks.

  • @imp0ssiblew0rds You can change the landing craft's properties to set it to a fixed orientation. That should help.

  • @imp0ssiblew0rds Double click on the func_tanktrain that you've made, and you'll see a 'change angles' property. Mess around with that. If you set it to 'fixed orientation' then it will remain in the same direction all the time. Alternatively you simply compensate for its angle by rotating it 90 degrees to the right.

  • How do i make the train, like when I press a button it goes to the other side, but when it has reached the other side it stops, but when I press the button again, It goes back? Is there like a toggle feature or something (I'm new to Source SDK, so I have no idea about toggles, timers and advanced stuff yet)

  • @FixFire6002 You could make the next destination in your second waypoint go back to the first, so it keeps going back and forth for ever.

Thanks for this! but I have one problem, my css map wont load? it's really odd, it normally loads automaticly, but now I do it by hand and it just shows a message like: ''Establishing connect to server'' and after 0,5 seconds that stops and I couldn't test the map.

  • @SeriousFailDude Hey! I was having the same problem with mine today! For me, the problem was putting nodraw on some of my terrain surfaces and physics objects. Make sure not to add nodraw to either of those to. The computer doesn't seem to be able to read that.

  • I have a suggestion for you tutorial educators: END the tutorial with a summarization of what to do and how to do it in an understandable as you explained it in the video so the viewer will understand. To you, that may be a choice. To me, it is what I'll call: tutorial etiquette.

    How do you fix shadows where you don't want them?

    Also do you have some kind of online voice chat or chat? Because I have a sort-of game website that's pretty new with a chat and no voice chat. I do have Teamspeak 3 though

  • @Arcaninesy vmf = the map file you load up and save in Hammer. Hypercam simply records the bit of the screen you tell it to. You add lights to remove shadows you don't want :P I don't use TS or anything any more.

  • Well, More like a plain. I want it to [On trigger] To fly and crash into a building like 9/11.

  • @NinjaKittyLOL You'd make the plane, make it a func_tanktrain, you'd make the waypoints, then you'd make the train's startspeed 0, and then onbuttonpressed you'd make its speed change to, say, 256. Let me know if you have any trouble with any of these bits.

    You might also want to add loads of ragdolls that fly up into the sky after collision. Phys_explosion can do this. env_explosion will make the explosions look like explosions.

  • Sorry, I'm not describing this very well. I am pretty new to SDK because I recently got a new computer that will actually not freeze up with SDK. Here is the scenario. A cylinder sits on top of a block, the cylinder with a motor turning it. A block is on one side of the cylinder, parented to the cylinder so that it goes around WITH the cylinder. When playing, the player can move in front of the block and move through the block.

    Tell me if this helps you understand?

  • @ArcaninesyPerhaps you could make the block that's parented to the cylinder al part of the same object, so you don't need to parent it to the cylinder.

  • @3kliksphilip I don't really understand how to do this, should I make a high cylinder and use the clipping tool? because that would be a pain in the neck to do.

  • @Arcaninesy You just... make the cylinder and the block part of the same thing by holding down ctrl and selecting the cylinder and that small side block at the same time. Then you press ctrl+t and make it what ever the cylinder currently is set to.

  • @3kliksphilip Thanks for the idea to fix the moving object, I was originally using blocks when it must be an entity to be a track point.

    More info on the rotating block : The block is a circle, with a motor, and it works when i develop it, however I wanted a block on top of the rotating object (parented to the cylinder) to rotate, and when I do that the block goes through the player, I want to make it solid.

  • Hi, This is Arcaninesy, and i have a couple of problems.

    First, when i make the tank / track train i have no "path_tracks" to make. (when i make blocks and ctrl+t, in class there is no path_tracks) Second, i tried making a rotating object with a vertical block on top of it, and when i play it the block goes through the player or the player goes through the block. (when you get on top of the block you slide off)

  • @Arcaninesy To find path_track try placing an entity in the level, and by searching through its list of entities.

    I don't really understand this rotating block with a vertical block on top, it might be better if you sent me a link to your map's vmf file so I could see for myself. Is the block parented to the rotating thing, or the rotating thing to it?

  • My camaras, i have 2 camaras and one shows blocks normaly and the other shows blocks but with it is colered blue, it's very strange, any defult options?

  • @Kdunkham Maybe you have another 3D box, but with the lightmap showing instead of 3d textured shaded polygons. Click in the top left hand corner of the box, and choose a different viewing mode. This should fix it.

  • how would you parent the block you used as the tanktrain with a physics model. Would you name the physics model and then in the parent section of the tanktrain you would put the name of the car?

  • I have multiple tracks, my helicopter only faces one way while going along these tracks. I need the heli to face the same direction of its pathway. Could some one give me some advice?

  • @shortstuff910mc It will be all in the helicopter's properties, possibly its flags. Check its orientation properties, it should be straight-forward to do. Literally!

  • where u got the giant balls ? i am working on a zombie escape map and i got narrow corridors that i want to put one of those balls in to crush the people.

    all i do is make the ball prop_physics, make the floor under it breakable, place a trigger and it will crush people ? if u dont have the model of the ball please link it or something, thanks.

  • @Juppie902 I selected the block tool from the left hand side of the screen, then on the right hand side of the screen in the drop-down menu I chose sphere.

  • my train, which is a heli keeps moving the same speed which is really slow, i do have some things attached to it, like a spinning blade on top and a breakable door to get in. could that affect the speed?

  • @sabbaloko No, it's either the max train speed in the heli's properties, or the speed property in the individual tracks nodes.

  • @ngoing001 You need to stop the player from being able to block the movement. Try looking in the tanktrain's flag properties.

  • @Mahiz96 Press shift+w, then try again. It toggles between 'working mode' and 'not working mode'. Probably not the best shortcut in the world...

  • @ATOMICBOMBCRV You'd be better off with strategically placed phys_explosion entities. Configured correctly, it will cause physics props to fly through the air.

  • Hey, I have a problem: I downloaded ALL the Source SDK Things. The Dedicated Multiplayer Server, Base 2005, 2007/6, And, Of course the Source SDK itself.. But, When I try to start Source SDK, It doesn't show up a window with all the stuff. Do you have to download Hammer Editor as a stand-alone program?

  • Hello, I am using Half life 2 and its slightly different however. I have a Corpse Ragdoll that I want to move, Like its getting pulled away. How do I do this?

  • @DaGuyd You could make it a prop_ragdoll entity, in its flags you can choose for it to interact with things. Pulled away by what exactly?

    I basically just want the ragdoll to move Move_track doesnt work and neither does a trigger_push. The Idea is that you are in a vent and as you enter it you see a ragdoll getting pulled around the corner by a monster. you dont have to see the monster I just add the sound in.

  • There isn't any SetSpeed option anymore, I think. I have looked for it, but it wasn't there.
