Riding around in my friend's mother's orange 1972 Olds Delta 88 listening to this song. Gawd that seemed so long ago. What really stunk was having it on 8 track. You couldn't fast forward or rewind, so when you wanted to relisten to this song you had to play the whole track which probably contained 3 songs. Then you could advance past the three other tracks to get back to the track this song was on.
I don't ever remember hearing this song on the radio, but I do remember hearing this song only once back in the end of 1978. It was in the YMCA on 23rd street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. They had a jam and the DJ played this song. It was mellow and we all loved it. I had to know the name and it stuck with me all this time. Thanks for posting.
this was the hottest jam in 1977 at every dance spot in nyc...from the smallest hood spot to studio 54...and by CAT STEVENS! they call him a terrorist...lmao...rock on CAT
its amazing ....I heard this on Diamond D set at Plan B in Brixton and could find it anyway....the joy of Google and You tube ....its frickin awsome !!
This reminds of Miami '77 we used to do the robot and lock-up on the street in front of my house...thanks for posting, I almost forgot about this one...~
Chi-Town Steppers-- Got to love 'em--Dobbs, Stacey Adams, Kangol...Yes, this is a Stepper's Original!! Now, let's get with the JB Monorail or Pass the Peas...LOL
@maclennan73 Exactly. Hidden in those vast discographies of bland wonk rock are hidden gems and jewels. Even Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, Moody Blues, Etc. Kids today don't know! (Or maybe they do) Anyways, I've always thought that was the true are of being an audiophile anyways.....finding the hidden gold.
How far from Father And Son can you get....Unbeleivable..wonder if this was a derived from a vocal track.
Looks like David Kershenbaum the co-producer was the electro influence...didnt know anything about this til a minute ago looking on discogs...Big thanks for this upload,,,,,GOD certainly is a doughnut.....
This track is a celebration!! I swear, the more I listen to it, the more romantically affectionate I become toward it. It's scored high by my pet cocker spaniel & golden retriever, too!! Thank you, Chicagowax, friend. Wrooof!!!
My folks had several of his albums; which I played often, when growing up in the 70s.. This track -(along with Kypros on "Izitso" and Whistlestar on "Numbers" ) a very good instramental; but why ~this~ was labled "Special Disco Version".. I decern NO difference from the regular album, other than the extra minute of silence @ the end ;) *cheers* for posting it!
Jaycool10,DJGleon,JGfitzz yall remember markham and the loop and rink?Yall definetly crib.I remember them hot summer nights eating gizzards and white bread and fries and cole slaw from jimmys bbq on halsted after skating. We used to go to Markham on smittys bus and get dropped at mcdonalds after it was over.
I used to think this was some sort of follow-up to "Salsa Smurph" by Special Request; come to find out it was the other way around. Yep, this must've been the track that got all those Tommy Boys barking on their records.
Shortly after I made this discovery (summer "09), I found the "Izitso" album at a record fair for about $5 (still shrink-wrapped with sticker). I would've overlooked it for sure if not for YouTube and these great uploads. Thank you ALL.
One more thought: It's interesting (to me) that the two techno-pop tracks most influential to that early 80's movement were both made in 1977. The other one being "Trans-Europe Express" by Kraftwerk.
If you've heard any of Cat Stevens other stuff, you were as shocked as I was when I learned HE created this. That's like Lil Wayne playing a Sicilian love ballad on a Stradivarius and performing it perfectly.

WADDUP!!! Right here front & center. Remember those days at The Rink and The Loop doing the Crazy Legs and The Godfather and then kicking off the skates to go step in the middle of the rink. DAMN I miss those days. Peace to you my Chi-Town homeboy or homegirl.
Dj I see u are from the crib. I went to the Loop and The rink a couple of times. I really hung out at Foxy Wheels on 62nd and Damen and then when they closed I started going to Markham.
It was. Also on skates too. It was a Gangsta strut when you cut across the middle of the rink to the other side. Oh yes how can I forget about Markham. I was going there after the G's and Princeton Park BGD Folks took over.
the Nitty Gritty...do the Nitty Gritty....Busta Rhymes on top of Chill City.....sorry, i couldn't help it. i love that remix. but, yeah, no doubt. KMD, Bus, Lord Jamar, and Sadat X rocked this on that song.
sampled first by crash crew for the song it's magic and nah ifdonutz extra dry by thomas bangalter (daft punk) was used to make raise it up i got it if you want it
I am so very happy to have finally found this song for my guy. He's had me looking and looking for years (not exagerrating). Thank you so much, chicagowax. CHI TOWN STAND UP!
