Well I went from a sony a200 to a sony a77, which is like cheese and chalk, but its safe to say I treat my a77 like a little precious baby, well at least at the moment I do :')
I bought my canon T2i used (1146 shutter count) for 499.00 w/ free shipping with a 1 year warranty. Then i bought my EF-S 18-55mm IS gently used for 43.99 w/ free shipping. Total = $542.99. T2i camera (body only) = 569.99-579.99. WHY PAY MORE?
Drop a Magnesium camera from head hight onto a concrete floor and i guarantee it will be just as fucked as the so called cheaper cams like the 550d or Nikon 5100 etc....face it who needs a mag alloy cam body?....unless you are going to sit on it..drive over it....drop bricks on it..its a mute point..one often used to sell the damn things....look at the 7d verses the 550d...apart from the mag alloy body and a higher burst rate and a few extra exposure points what does it do the 55o d cant do!
Best way to spend money is: get an entry level dslr like canon 550D and pick up some good lens, it's much better to spend the big money on the lens instead of the body.
If you already got good lenses then if you're so serious about the camera then you can go for a more expensive body.

Hi, Can you help me? I want to buy new dslr camera and i'm a beginner. can you suggest dslr camera that mostly have this specs? Image stabilization Live view LCD Color control (especially flesh tones) Low noise at high ISO settings Image noise reduction for slow shutter speeds Remote shutter release Small size and low weight Extended dynamic range Lots of external flash options please reply. thank you. =)
@zlayzer more often than not... it is the pros who use these expensive cameras mainly for the purpose of its ruggedness.... like NATGEO photographers... or photographers covering the war in many different places... you would expect them to be knocking their cams more often because of the jobs being in the wild or in a war zone...etc etc... and the lens as well.. i don't think an entry level DSLR like the 550D or 600D will survive the African wilderness.... Cheers!
@zlayzer Yes but this is different with photography. The average amateur photographer isn't going be expected to be traveling into dense jungles, deserts, third world countries, warzones, etc... Where as it is expected that professional photographers and journalists will be...
@zlayzer Expensive DSLRs are not consumer's play toys. They are serious tools used by professional photographers. So of course they'll get knocked around a bit in the field. However with cheaper cameras, they are meant for consumer (pro wannabes) except the consumer will not use it as ruggedly and will tend to baby it. To a consumer hobbyist, $800+ is expensive.
@Anavengertg A camera is ONLY as good as the person using it.Give a genius a Nikon D3100 or a Canon 1100d and they will get stunning pictures. Give an idiot a Canon 1D MK1V or a Nikon D3X and they will get rubbish pictures. I have a Nikon D90 and I am NOT a "Pro wannabe" I want pictures that are great, I want pictures that are superior to the pictures I will get with a cheap point and shoot camera. But I also fully understand where you are coming from sir.
@71shoelover Nowadays the "skilled" photographers are the ones who can manipulate photoshop the best. Composition barely even comes into it. Better cameras = less post processing. Really good photographers know how to set up a camera properly and use minimal post processing.
@Anavengertg Could not agree more. I try my very best to get great pictures straight from the camera and shoot in Fully Manual mode (M Mode) on my D90. I love it when I get great pictures straight off the camera. It is such a shame than you can get a rubbish picture and make it stunning by sitting infront of a computer for 8 Hours pissing about with a rubbish picture. That is NOT photography in my book. People buy DSLR camera's and think they will take great pictures straight away.
@andrewford80 Disagree you can get someone who is crap at takinging pictures who is a "computer geek" they can sit for 8 Hours at a computer and make a rubbish picture look great. I try my best to get great pictures straight from my Nikon d90 by shooting in full manual mode (M on the Nikon dial) after a while it becomes 2nd nature. If you buy a DSLR and shoot in Auto mode you might as well have just bought a Point and shoot.
@71shoelover So, when you shot with film (I'm assuming you did) you were happy with prints straight from the mini lab? Never used a darkroom to bring the best out of your negatives?
The thing with a DSLR, you might as well be shooting RAW and in which case, you need to apply some PP if you are going to get the best results out of it. If you just want to pump processed JPGs out then maybe you need to get the point and shoot.
@71shoelover You must think of a RAW file as a "digital negative" which must be processed just as a film negative must be. A JPEG image straight from your camera is just like getting your shots back from a processing lab, you get what the lab thinks looks ok. Most, if not all professional photographers shoot RAW. The majority of people who share your view have never been in a darkroom and don't appreciate exactly what can be done it one. Don't confuse "processing" with "doctoring".
@zlayzer Well that´s how you think, everyone isn´t like you. I can imagine if you buy a camera as a professional photographer you might not handle it like a little baby.
@zlayzer if you spend more money on a camera you want it to be protected. If you buy a honda chances are you aren't going to have an alarm on it, but if you buy a mercedes you would likely want to have some kind of protection. Modifying behaviors as you mentioned is also a means of protection due to the large investment.
@zlayzer Perhaps for the enthusiastic amateur but a pro buys a top end body knowing it's going to have a tough life. I think that's what the reviewer may be referring to.
@zlayzer It is .. because professional photographers take their equipment into situations where they are prone to damage, amateurs generally do not. They don't "damage" their gear on purpose.
Yeah I've seen some great prices for these online. Great resolution

My DSLR has 1080p, pretty high res images and hot shoes etc. Still only under £300. Amazing how cheap you can get cameras these days.

"When you buy a more expensive digital camera, they expect you might nock it about a little bit"
If i buy something expensive i try to be carefull, and if it´s cheap i usually aint. It isnt the other way around!
zlayzer 1 year ago 17
@zlayzer
It is the other way around if you are a photographer.
We specifically buy better (and more expensive) gear, to make sure that it can handle a bit of abuse.
You wouldn't believe the things my cameras have had to endure during photo shoots, in rain, snow, sandy conditions.
A camera is a tool, not unlike a hammer. If it brakes the first time I drop it, what good is it?
