  • @BlueTongueHeadShot97 Actually shingleback skink is one of the Tiliqua lizards aka. Blue-tongued Skinks.

  • Thanks, it was neat to find the skink crossing the road in the desert

  • That tongue is beautiful!! so exotic!

  • it's thinking, "No autographs, asshole!"

  • lol funny legs! looks like just grown for a walk

  • Okay, just did some research. Shinglebacks are species of blue tongues.

  • Okay, you guys are confusing me. I don't know much about skinks. Are shinglebacks a species of blue tongue or just closely related?

  • Yes common names do vary regionally and a name can be applied to completely unrelated species. That's why we have scientific names-to resolve any confusion.

  • Common names vary regionally and are correct as used.

  • Bluetongue is the common name of a number of species of skink in the Tiliqua family.

  • Shinglebacks are a type of Bluetongue. They're also the only lizard known to pair for life!

  • its a shinglebak lizard not a bluetongue

  • The only time I see my BTS's tongue is when he yawns or his tongue flicks out for food :)

  • lol XD that was cute XP

  • wtf weres its tail!!!???

  • Skinks can detach their tails at will to defend from prey. The tail eventually grows back.

  • this is Typhlosaurus class lizzard, this one have short tail

  • Really nice colours for a stumpy! Almost looks like any of the other bluey's from the east!

  • Trachydosaurus rugosus are belly skinks :)

  • Man, this is so awesome... I envy you because in environment around me there are no interesting species : /

  • I loved my trip to WA.

  • guys its either a blue tounge, and they can b pink,or a "sleepy"shingle back.its a pissed of bluey, trust me im a aussie and i grew up with them and i still keep and breed them.

  • When ya' look at the shape of the head and the tail of this particular shingleback you can see why they've been put in the blue tongue genus...

  • mines is called tiquela...

  • why do the tail always look all rough and beaten up on most blueys

  • it doesnt just on that particular speces

  • I loved it, great wild Shingleback.

  • Quite a find on a winter day!

  • funny skink

  • He doesn't seem to like the camera much. :D

    Nice video.

  • awesome video

  • Thats not a blue-tongue its a shingleback. They r skinks and they do have blue tongues so u r half right. They r a type of blue-tongue but they r called shinglebacks.

  • This skink is also known as the stump-tailed skink, pinecone, bobtail, two-headed skink, sleepy and boggi -- the peril using of common names. G'Day.

  • i know those other names, but thats its most common name i was just correcting u.

  • Dude, common names mean nothing. He is correct in calling it whatever he wants. Scientific names are what count. Tiliqua (or Trachydosaurus) is what this really is. This lizard is a skink, and it has a blue tongue, so why is calling it a blue tongue skink wrong?

  • Incorrect. A shingleback is a kind of blue-tongued skink. If it's a "skink and they do have blue tongues", then it's a blue-tongued skink. Think about what you say before you say it.

..Just realized this was a year ago. Late comment? Yes. Bad comment? No.

  • Oh yeah, that comment was to the person who said that it wasn't a blue-tongued skink.

  • Thanks, a nice surprise crossing the National Highway.

  • cool.
