Now American slave keep fingers crossed that President Disturbed Porno keep slaughtering life to cover up collapse of democracy no matter how many more citizens have human rights collapse under them because its.
I have always thought this scene (brilliant as it is on its own), owed a lot to Tarkovsky's train scene from Stalker. A person who loves this movie should love that as well, I would think.
people dont understand in general the atmosphere of this scene, the thought that these men will rob this train and could kill you in cold blood, its the coldness and darkness of this scene is what haunts me
The best shot in this entire film is when the train picks up the camera and we move with it for a few seconds. Moments like that elevate films to greatness. One of the best of the decade, in my opinion.
People rave about how beautiful Avatar is, yet these 100 seconds alone put that whole damn billion dollar movie to shame when it comes to stunning visuals.
We saw this in theater. It was pretty hard to hear the dialogue, so at first I didn't think much of it, but after seeing it at home I have to agree this is a VERY underrated film. This scene in particular, one of the most powerful I have ever seen. You almost feel like you're out in the woods with the bandits, waiting for the train to come.
what your describing is called cinematography. But yes it is a beautifully composed shot and is a monuments triumph for the Director of Photography to pull this off
Words can't express how perfect this scene is. Every damn detail is right where it should be; the music comes in at just the right spot; and if those shots of Jesse silouetted in the train's headlight don't take your breath away, then you just don't have a pulse.
This scene should have helped this film win best cinematography at the Ocars. It's obvious the Academy Awards is oblivious of what good filmmaking is.
"Ravenous" - also with Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle
"Blueberry" - with Vincent Cassel
"Dead Man" - with Johny Depp
"Unforgiven" - With Clint Eastwood
Thats what comes to my mind ...ain't shure what u mean by - this kind of films ...this are all modern westerns, with great scripts, music and fuck up melancholy desperados :)
Love this scene, just reading the book now and wow did this movie stay true to the author's vision....masterpiece is not the right word, but it is the first one that comes to mind....
Deakins himself described this scene as one of his greatest achievements. I like his work more on NCFOM, that was Deakins at his chilling best, Deakin's himslef has the potential to be a Director.
Ive long been a fan of Roger Deakins and this only cemented his work in the pantheons of cinematic history. His use of darkness (my favorite strength he has) among small light sources makes this scene so haunting. I love the silhouette of James on the rail block making him seem above everyone. Also the way Deakins controls the headlight of the train to reveal James' gang members draped in head sacks, shrouded in darkness amongst the trees, making them look like eerie ghosts.
I know! Working in conditions such as the locations in this film, and getting a great picture is true filmmaking. Sometimes i think, sometimes mind you, that CGI is an easy way out.
I learned that Jesse James would always wreck a train before he robbed it. Most outlaws didn't do that routine because it would destroy the goods or "Loot".
Im 24 and i agree with you. They only like that movie because it dealt with teenage issues but yet they feel that was the only movie to show that. Cmon there are others. Best picture nominees are only for the great contenders like this film.
This movie is God. The cinematography in most every scene is extraordinary, and the music is fantastic. I hate that this film wasn't nominated for Best Picture....should have replaced Juno...
Indeed. Ever since I saw the film( a while ago) I came on hear, searching for this scene. No one ever uploaded it.
Notice how the gang-members are like monsters, and how Jesse is propped up like some larger than life god, with the steam engulfing him---all set to the haunting music. Truly perfect direction, in my opinion.

Modern Westerns usually always have good cinematography, but this movie's cinematography is beyond amazing, along with the acting.

Don't know why but emerging lights from a train in the dark is one of the scariest thing there is.

and knowing cameras, working in the darkness is not the easiest job. The best part is that there is no CGI involved.
