  • after all these years i forgot how good hirsty really was/is

  • Great band. LOved them when I was growing up in Australia in the 80's and 90's.

  • Same here @hudo1. Agree 100%. what an awesome band

  • Such a massive part of my life in the 80's and 90's, so many memories....thanks boys!

  • He has pulled the wrong rein, but the oils are still the oils, this was confirmed for me last year at Melbourne Sound Relief. They were still so amazingly good, and man it hit me, you can really move around to Midnight Oil.

Here come the Hercules, here come the submarines...

it's kind of chilling, hope it ain't a prophecy

  • my cuntd itchy assholy smile

  • THIS IS SOMETHING I WILL REMEMBER , REMEMBER, REMEEEBERRRR!

  • love the oils

  • Hey thanks for putting this online, you are a legend for bringing back such good memories.

  • he knows things you dont

  • Peter sold his soul to the DEVIL. Money certainly changes peoples opinion on the NUCLEAR debate. Good performer but a real STAIN. Shame on you big pete !

  • @1Switchfoot

LOL he was just smart from the start and new that writing about popular topics they would have an instant following. The guy was a lawyer for christ sake.

  • @probids - Nice theory, except Jim Moginie and Rob Hirst wrote most of the lyrics. Popular topics?? Commercial radio ignored them as long as they could, and refused and refuses to play their later stuff - THEY WANT TO FORGET, THEY WANT TO BE QUIET ...

  • @1Switchfoot - A Switchfoot fan? Hmm. His opinions haven't changed, but he's on a different stage. As a rock singer, you can put your views out there at 110 decibels. No constraints. As a federal government minister, you put your views to cabinet, in private. If other ministers disagree, in particular the Prime Minister, you try to change their views. If they still disagree, you try to change the policy, as Peter did at the 2007(?) Labor conference. How do you know he's changed?

  • pete sold out

  • don't assume Peter Garret is the whole band

  • turncoat.

  • my all time favorite, no doubt.. live and kickin..

  • got to be one of my fave oils songs ...going off at gosford leagues club sensational ...

  • This song makes me so sad and angry...Visions of a robbed destiny...But I guess it's deserved in the bigger picture, if you catch my drift...

  • this song rocks live, they rock live!

  • Wonderful song. Not nearly the last great song the Oils made. mynewid666 should appreciate that music as a form is fairly useless in subverting anything. Music is representative, and never enforceable in and of itself. If it seems to change anything it's because that's what people want to hear. The intention is there.. people just latch onto it for reinforcement.

  • Keep the comments short please..

  • no..

  • arshole

  • mate, music is personal. there are plenty of people who love albums like Diesel & Dust, Earth, Sun & Moon and their last release, Capricornia. Favourite band of all time.

  • hindsight o what vision

  • If were not for this band, I would be just another stupid brain dead American listening to corporate news and actually believing that my country does no wrong! The Oils and Peter Garret opened my eyes back in 1981 and thank God for that! Forget the fact that their music is so addicting...they simply speak about truth, equality and peace! This pisses off the bastards that have turned this world upside down with all of their greed and ignorance. Now Peter is in parliment...Yeah!!!

  • @spquien He's in Parliament ... should have stayed in the band.

  • @Rikitocker exactly, stick to what you are good at

  • My first concert- Gold Coast Spit (they brought their own big top)- awesome show- 1983 I think. It was so hot inside- Peter jumped out on stage (giggling)to the Superman theme and they rocked the house- er- tent.

  • Hordern Pavilion.. 2 of us drank a bottle of JD between the carpark and the gate... only then could I dance like The Garrett

  • oils fern tree gully hotel melbourne australia circa 1980 $5:00 to get in good times

  • I saw them with the Sunnyboys in early 80s. Unbelievable live. Chisel, Angels, INXS, Mentals. It was a great time to see live shows in Oz.

  • At the San Miguel surprise gig? We went their to see the 'boys and the Oils came on first. Awesome night.

  • Uni of SA at Underdale from memory. Might have been Adelaide Uni. Those were the best summers of my life. Wine, women & song (and no responsibilities!)

  • it's a very good son

  • What ever happen to angry rock and roll? Did we really become so complacent that we just sit back and take it?

  • 1990 / 2005 live Memories

  • I saw them at a small club in '88 or '89. Right up front. Man, that man can SWEAT. He would spin around or move his arm out and sweat would come flying off of him! Yeah, Peter Garrett sweated on me. At the time it was an honor... LOL I was a fan.

Well... still am. But still, kinda gross.

Either way, that was a SHOW. Probably in my top 5 of all time. And I've seen a LOT of concerts in my life.

Cool that now he's actually part of the Aussie gov!

  • I was at this show. AMAZING rock band.

  • my life ..thanx for postin!..

  • Awesome - Thanks for posting.

    Greatest band ever these guys.

  • This band kicked arse live!!! Memories.

  • Bloody Hell I miss the Oils days!!!!

  • awesome tune...if u don't like it.. fuck off u liberal money grabbing cunts

  • when you say 'liberal' you mean Conservatives...oui? only in Ozzyland (gr8 place by the way) are Conservatives called liberals. fuck knows why.

  • oui ???? is a silly french term for suck my dick...............

hmmmm I have been away from here for far too long

  • What an awesome song. Loved it when I was about 10, & even more as I got older & understood its message.

  • peter gifford was a better bassist than bones.

  • I miss his crazy dance! LOL

Vote ALP!! Get rid of the Nazi party!

  • relly good rock on boys

  • STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!! BY HAYLEY ADIAR

  • that was STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • !!!AWESOME!!!

  • Here come the Hercules, wait no, no its the ALP :)

  • Rock on! Where is the activism, the rebellion in today's music? The Oils 4ever!

  • LOL Pete totally rooted the second verse, you can see Rob do a double take and get ready to leap to the chorus, but then they recover with some mixed up lyrics :D

  • Wow....amazing. I saw Midnight Oil in Hollywood at the end of the 80's. At the end of the show, Peter said he ran into a long time fan that day in a record store. He asked the guy what he wanted t hear that night and the guy said "Brother....play Hercules!" And they did. Fucking brilliant. Midnight Oil put on 3 of the best shows I have ever seen. I miss them. Thanks for posting this.

  • fuck howard

  • I was there. Great show. What are they doing now?

  • peter garrett is in politics robs got his band and doing small tours the other guys are possibly got teir own projects.

  • The power AND the passion. Love the Oils

  • Absolutely fucking brilliant. From a time when Aussies had something to say instead of sucking the Yanks arse.

  • Agree 100 fucken percent! Redgum was another top early 80s Oz band that had plenty to say. These days they're all safe marketable suckholes.

  • I agree. There are political bands, but they're far away from the mainstream. Whose fault?

  • When they were around Howard wasn't PM and George W bush wasn't president. Many of their other songs had similar messages (power and the passion and others)

  • as an aussie best aussies ever
