It is silly to compare people especially of different times and styles.. Joe Pass was an incredible guitarist. To say, he was the best of his time, is a matter of taste. I, just, discovered Sylvain and have to say he is one of the best today. I would not say he was the best. Listen to John Stowell, Mick Goodrick and John Abercrombie.All are unique and some of the most incredible players today.

I also think that comparisons are not required. However Sylvain Luc is the top, in his own style (not so many can claim to have one).
He's got music served by an excellent and technique is completely at its service. He does slap at times, which doesn't necessarily impair sensitiveness.
He's a bit like Tuck Andress, doing a lot chords and melody at the same time, but he's more complex IMO. Plus he can do that in complete impro.
Then again, comparisons, we all know what they're worth :-)

I am petty sure Joe pass guitaristically kicks your ass. Anyway, even Sylvain luc will laugh at your shit. And one more thing, joe pass has been plaing all his life and had success.
