thats not an original baum Kuchen..it got its name from the making..its a spinning stick with dough on it..when its baked another layer gets on top..when this is baked another one goes on top..and so on for at least 20 layers..so when you cut it it looks like a tree..with all this rings in the inside. And traditionally its serverd as very thin slices then.
Yes, it is spelled Kuchen but pronounced (in Katakana in the signs) as "Ku-HeN" I've had it in Germany and in Japan. There is a difference. The Japanese version seemd to be less-sweet... which is what I personally prefered.
