  • Luke Vibert samples that whistle as well, can't be bothered to check which track like, might be one of the Ace of Clubs releases, you know, the acidic ones, all squelchy like, why are you still reading this and not paying attention to Beck?

  • Hey, thanks for providing the lyrics for these masterpieces, your obviously a real Beck enthusiast, I have all albums and am proud to say that I saw him (them) live in Phoenix, AZ. What a show, real entertainers/perfomers! Beck's the real deal! LET ME TELL YOU 'BOUT MY BABY, SHE WAS BORN IN ARIZONA!!! love it!

  • I was listening to this album when it was first released. And I still do. One thing that never occurred to me until now is that there is similarity in between Beck and The Doors, and that it is especially apparent in this song.

  • 2.08 reminds me of the intro to wings's silly love songs :)

  • The whistle at the top of this song is from the song, "The Moog and Me" by the regrettably named Dick Hyman.

  • i played this album at a recreation center, everybody knew who it was

  • i never say these kind of things, but these lyrics are genius :)

  • Every time I hear this song it always reminds me of that song in that MST3K episode Girl in the Gold Boots that is played over and over in that terrible movie.

  • I don't know bout the rest of yall, but i love this song :)

  • Beck's one of my favourites, and the fact that his religion was made up a while after the rest of them doesn't change that.

  • Fluxism.

  • I'm no fan of Beck's religion either (though not really a fan of any religion so not to single out that specific one...), but he isn't pushy about it like I don't know Tom Cruise etc. and his music speaks for himself. If Scientology contributed to his "sound" (which quite frankly is always evloving and can't be pinpointed as something specific), then maybe his religion gave us all something great... I'd like to contribute it all to Beck himself though. Musicians like him don't come around often.

  • I really disagree with his choice of ""religion"" but he is one of my favorites and for some reason I just can't see Beck taking anything seriously, especially that shit. I don't know, maybe that's what THEY WANT ME TO THINK!

  • @MFiebig shouldnt everyone stop caring about religions soon?much less arguments

  • I'm not going to let his personal choices influence my liking for his music. That would be like me saying I don't like the Beatles because they did pot. It's a retarded reason to dislike any artist whatsoever.

  • Genius.Nuff said.

  • damn i love this

  • w'nt be surprzd if ths was skinny puppy guy

  • Odelay on cassette is nice.

  • Hit after f**king hit its all Beck does.

  • the one person who dislikes this should be shot.

  • nothing beats this album, just amazin..

  • Love the whistle tune at the beginning. Great song.

  • So good........

  • just the best album.. one of my favs..

  • the only Beck album I like...and the best song on it, Novacane as well

  • I like 'Matchsticks strike when I'm riding my bike to the depot' when the drums come back in.

  • gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

    *bongos*

  • this song is one of the best on Odelay.

  • Visionary musician.

    Terrible choice of religious principles.

  • @horatioalger17 For all we know, the crazy shit they teach influenced his music, if so, I could care less about that, he's amazing.

  • @horatioalger17 do your homework kid, Beck is a 2nd Gen Scientologist! I'm sure your parents gave you some traditions you aren't real happy about either...

  • i got a stolen wife and a rhinestone life and some good ol' boys....I'm ridin my will on a three dollar bill in the evenin time....damn

  • I always have this song stuck in my head when I ride my bike.

  • you should take a walkman with and listen to it as well. Brilliant.

  • @bookshelffury im gonna ride my bike until i get home... nearly a Ronson/Beck mix in there ;)

  • Brings back memories of playing this driving my old VW Polo in the height of a British summer with the windows open along the narrow country lanes.

    Man! I loved that car.

  • @stuntpea we may not all be from the UK, but im sure we can relate!

  • This song is the best in the whole world ! ;D

  • Yeah, my favorite of the album. "matchsticks strike when I'm riding my bike to the depot, and everyone knows my name at the recreation center." Lyrics make pictures in my head.

  • I love Beck!

  • To tell you the truth, Beck is completely different than most modern music. He has a distinct sound of his own. To call it a "modern youth song" is, to me, a huge mistake. On the other hand, this is one of my lesser favorite Beck songs. He has much better. Oh, and I prefer the 60's ;)

  • @multivitamins4all I loved listening to Beck as a kid, total nostalgia blast when I got back into my dad's albums.

Modern music is just so bland nowadays, no inspiration, no substance, it's sad.

  • Right on dude. Beck is completely different from pretty much all musicians I know. What I appreciate the most is the broad spectrum of music he plays/writes. He covers such a dynamic range and makes all the genres sound good too. Dude is just wired defferent than the rest of us, even different than most musicians

  • @MrSketches go back to the middle ages
