I think Jeruselum was originally located in Africa and not Islam, but this place looks like fun and a nice place to be at.

Ppl only concentrate on the cross shaped church "bete Lalibela" but there are 11 others, which are magnificent, artistic and filld with mural paintings.

@Maliksabawi yes there are a total of 11 churches. But the cross shaped one is called "bete Giorgis" not "bete lalibela".

Actually this isn't the holiest place in Ethiopia, but Aksum is. Nonetheless this place is full of spiritually enlightened ppl in Ethiopia. Thx 4 the vedio.

I really like the style of Lailbela double stair "hats or Tukuls" They are unique in the fact that they have stone walls.. I think if it is needed to build new hoses and hotels, they should respect that style of the "autoctone" life and hous building styl... apart from the religion value of the twon, of ocurse...

Why only the african Jerusalem? Russian could to think so Lalibela to be the african Lalibela! Some western christians very primitively think, but Lalibela has absolutely unique sacred value distinguished from Jerusalem.

During the reign of Saint Gebre Mesqel Lalibela (a member of the Zagwe Dynasty, who ruled Ethiopia in the late 12th-13thAD) the current town of Lalibela was known as Roha...the monolithic churches themselves are said to mimic names and patterns observed by Lalibela during the time he spent in Jerusalem and the Holy Land as a youth.

Lalibela is said to have seen Jerusalem and then attempted to build a new Jerusalem as his capital in response to the capture of old Jerusalem by Muslims in 1187.
