I think this more passionate version of the song is fitting as, when his voice reaches the climax of intensity, the lyrics are

I absolutely love Josh Ritter and I really like Matthew Good too, but I didn't know what to expect from his cover of one of my favorite songs, but I love it!

It's not necessarily better because both versions are wonderful, but it's so good! Great job Matthew!

no no! this fella sounds like christina aguilera, louder doesn't mean more passionate, just simply louder! its a love song of sorts, you dont shout a love song to a lady, you serenade her! there's a dramatic/tragic element to the song which josh captures with the low, quiet, more solemn tone. personally i prefer it that way!

I was listening to Josh Ritter's -- Thin Blue Flame, and it sounded so much like matt in the pre MGB days (mercy misses you, every name is my name, era), its not even funny.

Except that every name is my name isn't really pre-mgb, it was more of just a more obscure song from LOTGA.

I'd say the 2 are more similar when you listen to songs like Blue Skies Over Bad Lands and Champions of Nothing. Not so much his older songs. Actually, the song "Last of the ghetto astronauts" would come close to Josh as well, but that is one of the only older songs that I can think of that would be comparable.

Love this video, IMO its the best version of this song. Matt performed it in Ottawa when I saw him on October 18th, it was phenomenal.
