The fact that Rachel Alexandra can stay in the front the entire time without another horse getting in front of her is incredible! She's a great horse to beat all those boys. Mine that Bird is good to go from the back to front at that speed, but Rachel Alexandra is better by fighting for the front every step of the way and coming out victorious.
MTB was really a one race pony, I think Summer Bird was awesome, His father Birdstone and grandfather Grindstone were 2 of my favorite horses of all time :), pretty good Prodedny (sp?) for youngsters :) VBG :)
@crazy4horses11 keep in mind that Zenyatta is a much older horse. Rachel's still growing into herself. And if there ever was a match race between the two of them, Zenyatta wouldn't win because she wouldn't be able to pull her trick of running in the very back. She'd have to stay with Rachel up in the front and probably wouldn't win.

All Fillies and Mares since the dawn of racing have been given a 5 pound allowence, this is because of the impression by breeders/Betters/stewards believe that fillies are weaker competition. The same way that handicap races give higher weights to more accomplished horses to increase betting.
Then what's up with all the talk I heard about "she doesn't know she's a Filly" and all that. If that's the case why would she need preferrential treatment? Can't have it both ways... if she's one of the boys she plays by the same rules the boys do.
I guess it's like hitting from the womens tees in golf?

They mentioned other prior winning fillies. Rags' Belmont run against Curlin was one of the best ever. Congratulations to Rachel Alexandra, her owner and team.

I'll take Rachel Alexandra any day of the week against Mine that Bird. I know the belmont is farther...but the pace will be steadier...and she'll like belmont better than pimlico
I think Mine That Bird is much the Best. He won the Derby at 50-1 going away! He's a closer! In-experienced trainer! New Jockey for Preakness (would of beat Rachel if he got through cleanly)! In my books; if he goes on to win Belmont, Travers & Breeder's Cup Classic he's as good as any this Generation... SeaBiscuit anyone?
Yeah I agree that he really is a very good horse. He was just getting started exiting that mess coming for home. Like Mike Smith said, another 1/2 furlong and they'd have caught Rachel. If they run in the Belmont NO HORSE has a chance against MTB. He was made for the distance. He knows how to win. You saw that in both of these TC races. Just the PS didn't have the room for him to catch Rachel. Rachel doesn't stand a chance in the BS.
Rachel Alexandra is sure something else. She proves it doesn't matter if the girls run with the boys, it's about the best running against the best, whether colt or filly. I love that her owner said he wanted to breed her to Curlin. May get a super foal.
after going 23 & 46.3, the filly ran HUGE! She put a track record holder from GP (Big Drama) away and then held off the late charge from MTB. Awesome.
I agree! He was way back their and had that second wind and almost beat her!but she still one! and in the lead the whole time! damn that filly's great!

yes , Zenyatta can beat Rachel Alexandra because Zenyatta beat MTB with many leights in the BBC and Rachel beat MTB with 1 leight in the Preakness.

That wasn't Durkin on that call, that was the track announcer for Pimlico. Dirkin was calling the race for NBC. And He didn't get excited like that.

Wow. Mine That Bird is one fast horse! It was waaaaay back and ended second after winning the Derby. And Rachel is one powerful filly!
