If you don't do this you're technic is very limited (forget double thumbing , flamenco style,U can't do tapping propely ...)

The reaso why many people don't slap that way is that their bass is to low , so they can't get that position....check out all the great guys , they all have their thumb up (exept for double thumbing wich is a bit parallel)
