Technically, it isn't the genius of Sondheim; the "beware of sexual predators" lesson was part of the original fairytale. Sondheim just wrote some pretty snappy music and lyrics to the tale (and gave Little Red Riding Hood more character), which is genius in itself. However, the fact that he stuck to the original tale is pretty awesome :)
