  • Hi Sir ... Just want to thank you for the videos with plain down to earth info.

Im a pretty experienced hiker and came up with my final solo kit, which is the trangia 28 (the one you show). First, I got rid of the stove and replaced with a tuna can (same boil time). Pot and lid/pan are perfect, very light and you eat right in it. Added a small tight windscreen. Holder is easily turned into a small wood stove. Stuffed in a spork, lighter, rag and thats it. 30$. Fancy titanium kits arent better.

  • @Retubetard AGREED...You pay for a fancy name and material.. if a ounce counter I guess lighter is better.. but they all do the same thing.. I favor the Swiss volcano at 15 bucks.. like the setup..add some of the trangia and your set.. thanks for watching..

  • I just bought my first alcohol stove, a Trangia 27-5. It is a little big and heavy, maybe best for base-camp. I plan on picking up the Mini Trangia to replace a butane canister backpacking stove as alcohol is just so mush cheaper, and easier to find.

About burning wood, is that do-able with the non-military Trangia kits such as the Mini Trangia and the 27-5?

A video demo would really kick ass.

    As always, good info here.

  • @WisconsinEric The mini Trangia 28-T kit has that windscreen/potholder and if you notice it is cut down on the sides pretty good. Wood twigs burns fine in it, although a bit longer in boiling time than the Swiss Volcano, it's still very doable.

  • Good video. I just finally picked up my first alcohol stove kit, a Trangia 27-5.

Its a little big and heavy though, maybe best for base camp. Planning on a smaller setup as well to take the place of my Snow Peak gas canister stove as alcohol is just so much cheaper, and is easier to find vs butane canisters

About burning wood, is that do-able with the non-military Trangia kits? (27-5 or Mini Trangia)

A video instructing on how to use wood in a alcohol stove would be great!
