Everyone is right. The song is beautiful and beautifully sung. Mythical and real are not so separate as some uncreative minds see it. The House of David is real. Yehoshuah of Nazareth and his historic teachings are as real as anything from those times. The myths are very real, too. They have real power, and real meaning, and real personal emotive sentiment. Virgin birth does happen in nature. And miracles also happen -- like when people feel love and peace. It's real is you feel it, baby.
I dislike the commercials that you-tube has to put on. That's what TV is for. Once again corporate America has to have it's own way again Merry Christmas to you greedy rich people too. No matter what we as Christians need to love them too.

This is exactly what I've been searching for. If I close my eyes I can see my grandmother's old house, even though it's long gone and the last Christmas I had there was when I was three or so. I miss it so much. It's amazing that this song can bring it all back though.
Even though I am not Christian and nobody has the same religion and beliefs, just look at and listen to all the works of art that came from faith and spirit. I am a Buddhist myself, but I feel that other songs from a church, a mosque, a street, a temple, they all make me feel warm and fuzzy inside... And I heard this song when I was a baby watching Tom and Jerry. It was ever since my lullaby including my mom's. :)

my favorite part is the very begging before the singing starts. It reminds me of when I was a little kid, my mom bought me this wind up music box that sang this song. Every year during christmas she would bring it out, I swear I would wind it up a million times and listen to it. But I distinctly remember I would put it right beside me when i slept. The beggining of this song reminds me of right when my eyes would start closing as I fell asleep... Probably the most peaceful sleep ive ever had

My argument is this: If God directed sinful men to write down and compile the scriptures, couldn't he also direct them in some of their doctrines?

Now I believe that there will be tons of catholics in heaven so bear with me. Back to the rosary, the bible says do not pray in vain repitition. Also not to pray to anyone but me, well half the rosary consists of repitions of hail mary's! if you've been into a catholic church, there are tons of statues which require on to bow to. :)

I don't believe that jesus is born on december 25 and any of catholic preachings but one thing I love is christmas cause its such a beautiful event and it brings great memories for children and at least for once a year violence is toned down and love is celebrated.

It is somewhat of a shame that a song such as this must be made a platform for religious argument. In any case, I do not attend church, save on Christmas Eve, and I am not devout in Christian belief, but this music makes my heart ache with nostalgia and love. It is, for me, a most fond memory in that I am with my family at the time of year when people must place aside hatred and anger.

Religion has given far more good than bad. It was the reason we first became civilized, is the source of most of our culture, and has given us morals to guide us. And, while i am christian, i believe this is true of all religions. All cultures know that there is a God that has wus and attempted to guide us through out our history. I actually aadmire a lot about islam. Christmas is my favorite holiday. You can't get a more joyous occassion than the birth of humanity's saviour

I don't know how to un-thumbs-down without giving thumbs-up, and I wont go that far. My argument is this: If God directed sinful men to write down and compile the scriptures, couldn't he also direct them in some of their doctrines?

Now I believe that there will be tons of catholics in heaven so bear with me. Back to the rosary, the bible says do not pray in vain repitition. Also not to pray to anyone but me, well half the rosary consists of repitions of hail mary's! if you've been into a catholic church, there are tons of statues which require on to bow to. :)

I don't believe that jesus is born on december 25 and any of catholic preachings but one thing I love is christmas cause its such a beautiful event and it brings great memories for children and at least for once a year violence is toned down and love is celebrated.

It is somewhat of a shame that a song such as this must be made a platform for religious argument. In any case, I do not attend church, save on Christmas Eve, and I am not devout in Christian belief, but this music makes my heart ache with nostalgia and love. It is, for me, a most fond memory in that I am with my family at the time of year when people must place aside hatred and anger.

Religion, on the other hand, is mans use of faith to control and oppress his fellow man. I do have a problem with that. I'm not saying it's backward, but you can't just discredit all other religions just because you think catholicism is 'superior' somehow. There are many religions that predate christianity (i.e. Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.). You need to realize that there are other ways of worshiping God other than Catholicism.

Religion has given far more good than bad. It was the reason we first became civilized, is the source of most of our culture, and has given us morals to guide us. And, while i am christian, i believe this is true of all religions. All cultures know that there is a God that has wus and attempted to guide us through out our history.
