That seems to be a the industry trend. Many bikes that were once manufactured in the US or Europe are now being "Made In Taiwan". There are still a few hold outs that continue to produce in house as they always have. They are likely more expensive, but you get what you pay for and take pride in local companies.
In the UK a pinarello prince frame costs £3k ($5k), and its made in taiwan, yet a US made trek madone frame is around £2000 ! The major manufacturers seem to be transferring production to taiwan to save on production costs, but the cost to the consumer remains the same or increases in many cases. Increases in prices cannot solely be explained by increasing manufacturing costs. Buy US/EU and mayb costs will come down?
I seriously thnk ny off-the-shelf frame is worth no mor thn £2k of my £
