How sad that Nick had some kind of mental barrier for playing live, or even doing a BBC session. I am one of those people who only discovered his music recently. I saw Richard Thompson's name on a CD of Nick's and decided to investigate....now it's one of my favourite CD's....
@smurfieboo I think you're missing the point here. It's understood that frankly no one probably knew Nick Drake very well as he was a very distant and reserved character throughout his life. The purpose of the movie is to compile the viewpoints and anecdotes of those who knew him best--even if that isn't very well--and present the audience with a profile of him that is as coherent and accurate as possible. Hence, "The search for Nick Drake."
A Skin Too Few is a better account of Nicks life and this one seems thrown together and amateurish at times! But it also has far more personal stories about Nick from people who knew him. I think it's worth knowing that Nick could be quite cold and precious a lot of the time even though he did have love and support from his family and lots of friends who really admired him.
poor nick, someone should have made sure you were ok, someone should have made sure you had money, where were all of your cambridge chums when you really needed them..
What gets missed is that the Glitter people and the Zepplin people were about to turn it all into a heavy metal toxic-rama. Drake's music, like Drake, was as fragile as filagree-and it got blown away in a welter of pr, and bullshit Drake provides the soundtrack as the old England gets deep sixed, axed, twisted into schlock.
I love how Kieth Morris' daughter or who i assume was his daughter just colors away while some dudes in her house with a camera are interviewing her father.
Worth watching! thanks for posting it..by the way those people in the documentary who didnt know who Nick Drake was are very unlucky poeple as never listened magic of the melody.
I have most of Nick's recorded material. It is very gratifying to finally get some more information. He seems to have been very enigmatic, to say the least.
OK, WOW! In this video when sis says he through the record on her bed, and it was "Five Leaves Left", I accidentally read it as Five years left and noticed it was released in 1969....he died in 1974..SHIVERS.
