"Nice voice" ? Indeed. A formidable organ ! He has a poor pronounciation of French, but his brilliance and the steel-strong quality of his top notes makes me give it a 19/20 ! Caro maestro !
yes federic, caruso recorded and sang the role complete his last recording and a good one. Martinelli managed it very well also doing the complete role but in our time Tucker and later Shicoff where best. Richard Tucker of course wanted to do it for years and Manager Bing told him it was too dated and Tucker's reply was all opera is dated! Bing finally agreed to stage it for him and Sills would be in the cast but two days later Tucker died of a heart attack suddenly . Later Shicoff sang it.
As much as I like him I prefer him in roles like Otello, Forza, Chenier and Trovatore. His singing in the Russian Carmen in 1965 was also very fine, he sang in Italian while the cast sang in Russian, Archkipova the Mezzo at the Bolshi in Moscow and available in CD or Video.
this is out on cd, a purchased it in Rome several years ago. The label is Urania and is a concert with Herva Nelli (Toscanini's lover) at the San Fransisco War Memorial Opera House, 1950. It was a recording of a radio simulcast.

Bellissima interpretazione ! Paragonabile all'esecuzione perfetta fatta da Caruso nel 1918. Un saluto
