Wow. What a beautiful instrument and such melody played so beautifully.
We are living in such great times and I hope that instead of flaming each other lets enjoy the musical wealth of this planet irrespective of where it came from, who is playing it or who owns what. Music is gift that one must have the humility to accept and say nothing but thanks for the privelege to listen.
So thanks ANTHONYSHAMS and FARHAD.
BTW that instrument resembles Santoor in India which orginated from persia.
The qanún or kanun (Arabic: قانون qānūn, plural قوانين qawānīn; Azerbaijani: Qanun; Turkish: kanun; Armenian: քանոն qānon; Greek κανών 'measuring rod; rule' akin to καννα 'cane') is a string instrument found in Near Eastern traditional music based on Maqamat. It is basically a zither with a narrow trapezoidal soundboard. Nylon or PVC strings are stretched over a single bridge poised on fish-skins on one end, attached to tuning pegs at the other end.
@aristarhoss No, in his time the common instruments were the kithara and the lyra there was no such thing as a kanun. They are early predecessors to it though in that case you're right. But trust me I studies this in my university music lectures, they weren't kanuns back then.
Iran was part of arabia for many centuries under the muslim rule...then under the turkish rule, before that arabs and turks were under persian rule...we are trying to spread hairs here...it's a legacy of the middle east...as a matter of fact the guy who first wrote the ntoes for it lived in spain..it was a muslim country at the time...he's a european/north african mix...
The barbarian arabs attacked Persia and passed through it for only 200 years out of that land's 7000 year history(Omayyad+Abbasi-660-860ad) and even then persians ruled themselves locally. Turks never controlled the whole Iran/Persia. They only controlled western states Palestine/Syria/Baghdad/Kurdestan/azarbaijan when they were Persian territory for 100 years in 1500-1600s.
We brought music to the world...The first music school in Spain was funded by the Persian musician, Zaryab (Arab's called him Ziryab). The guitar Gheytar was a Persian invention.
I really like this exotic sounding cover of one of my favorite songs, very interesting indeed! George Michael would be proud, you really did the song justice.

Originally it is greek instrument kanun=kanonas in greek language. Pythagoras was the first kanunmaker

Sure, every f.ing thing is Greek. You people don't know to appreciate great music? regardless of origin of instrument or artist?
