This is a 102hp model originally, but it is heavily modified and with this setup it went 14,53s/158,88kmh @1/4mile (see my other vids). That combined with 1980kg weight means actually 370hp. Try that with your old Trabant on a test bed... ;)
I used two different FWD 1.9TDIs (IV Golf, Seat Ibiza -99 IRC) which both went almost identical trap speeds and ETs were also close to mine (within 0,3s). Both cars had been weighted and dynoed just before those 1/4 mile runs. Both cars were dynoed on a dyno that was capable to hold the boost up for the entire run. This is not the case with the dyno I have been using for my van (it made 308bhp @4900rpm with only 1,25bar and fueling is directly proportional to boost).
I'm from Finland so my English ain't that good either...
My setup: Gt23v-AMG turbo, 2mm bigger valves with performance cam, 5-1 exhaust manifold, 3" DP + exhaust, R520 nozzles with custom made 12mm pump (original is 11mm, so 24% more fuel). SMF with SRE clutch (capable for ~800Nm), HUGE IC, modified MAF, custom software with elecrical VNT control.
+ lots of other mods... ;)
It actually went 14,53s/158,88s @1/4mile weighting 1980kg which equals around 370bhp.
@valonvieja hello, what did you do to get this hp/torque? I'm currently tuning my boxer 2.8 HDI, now pushing 165 hp from the stock 127 hp, upgrades so far are larger FMIC, no cat, powerbox ( chiptuning )
Just read these comments. I have explained my setup here before.
It's funny as I have a 2001 Ducato (exactly same car/engine as Boxer) tuned up to same level. :) Only difference is that my Ducato has no electrical controlled injection pump (122hp originally). Here -02-> models are required to have speed limiter, so I'll keep my Ducato in mint condition and today I changed a custom turbo to it (as the original started to whistle badly).
FIN-Turbo here in Finland put bigger wheels inside the Ducato's original turbo, so I'll be adding more fuel and raise rev limiter (now around 4200rpm, originally the engine died @3500rpm) from my mechanical pump. I'm planning nothing fancy with this one as the gearbox is weak, but something like 190-200hp should be possible.
Besides the injection pump also turbos are different between our models (2.8tdic vs. 2.8HDI(JTD)). Your turbo is already capable for ~200hp.
@valonvieja Well it's cooling more than enough now with the FMIC, but if i turn the powerbox up for more power, I get engine error light on and the engine shuts itself off, now it's on 65%, and runs about 165 hp. It pulls to about 4 k in revs. I've studied the engine more, and I think the main hp/torque limitier here is the single camshaft or 8 valve setup of the 4 cylinder 2.8 HDI engine. The turbo is like you see large enough, although I don't know which model KKK this is.
A performance cam is worth of 10-20% more power, but the more power you get, the more you are going to loose at low rev area. That's a no-no with a heavy van like these. Well, the cam has something to do with the rev happyness, but you just lack fuel at high rev zone. This can't be helped with box as those just add to an existing fuel injection quantity (=IQ). Original IQ starts to drop after 3500rpm and goes almost to nil at 4000rpm.
Why do you need to adjust the fueling yourselve? Just get it fueled by a live programmer and adjust with your foot (=gas pedal) from that on. This is possible on diesel, not on gasser. Just remember there are chip companies and then there are people who actually know what they are doing. Programming on the rollers is a good way to starts as that means they have invested some money in their business. Maybe they have invested some thoughts too... :)
@valonvieja Chiptuning company told me the same hp/torque figures as the powerbox does.. and the nice thing is I can control the powerbox myself, Chiptuning I can't change...
Also ditch the powerbox and get a decent (live) programming for your van. You should be able to get 185-200hp out of it easily. Torque needs to be restricted because of the gearbox. If you want to really push it, make sure you have exhaust manifold pressures (=EMPs) measured while making the programming. EMP should not exceed 3bar at any time and at higher rev area it shouldn't be no more than 0,5bar over boost. Otherwise your turbo will end up dead very soon...
Just look my other videos and see my van @1/4 mile. 14,53s/158,88kmh with a 2 ton FWD van equals far more than just 300hp...
But if you read above, it says:
"This was the first run with 300hp setup. New winter tires plus little moisture on the road made it difficult to get traction even with using only about 75% throttle."
So it was slippery and you can see/hear when tires got loose. Clearly not all the time...
Hi, would you be able to give me some advice? I was thinking on getting the 150BHP T4, and was wondering if you could help me get it to 200BHP+
For now, all I know is that a remap can take this engine to 185BHP. Can you give me and tips/suggestions on getting to 200BHP+? I was thinking a bigger turbo and someone mentioned to me bigger injection heads or something.
If its possible to get this to 200BHP + easily, then I will buy it :)
Wow... Most sites I've checked for map details show a max of 185BHP. I know it may sound crazy, but is it possible to fit a twin turbo into a T4 bonnet? I was thinking of having a system like the one used on the BMW 1 series...
Have one small turbo, that charges up fully for gears 1 and 2, and then the bigger turbo that is fully charged from the smaller turbo for gears 3+ I was just wondering if its possible for the T4.
The only problem I have is... Finding a 150BHP T4. Lol.
You have good ears... Actually the van was making around 370bhp eventually and made 14,53s / 159kmh @1/4mile weighting 1980kg. Just look my other videos... :)
Do you steer while on the rollers (my camera is attached to steering wheel)? I would consider that extreamly dangerous if this video is really made on the dyno... Also does your AAB make 14,53s/158,88kmh @1/4mile? ;) Just see my other videos.
Really can't understand what you see @16s.? All I see is steering wheel movement to keep it on the road while massive wheel spin and a glimspe of my AVC-R boost gauge on the left upper corner.
Nawet z motoru AXG ciężko by było wyciągnąć moc 300 KM. Wszystko trzeba zmieniać, od turbosprężarki rozpoczynając na komputerze kończąc
Like I said @16sec you can see my APEXI AVC-R in the right upper corner stating around 2bar boost.
If you have ever been on the rollers, you must know that turning steering wheel with a FWD is a no-no.
AXG is the same engine, it has only bigger nozzles and bigger VNT-turbo than my ACV originally. In this video my engine has much bigger VNT (gt2559v), much bigger nozzles (R520), custom made head with bigger valves, custom cam, tubular ex manifold + 3" exhaust, custom 12mm pump...
Vr6 is a normally aspirated gasoline engine with under 200bhp. I can drive circles around it with my old diesel van...
My van's record @1/4-mile is 14,53s / 158,88kmh and it weights 1980kg on scale. About 370bhp is needed to do that. You can see a video of that run if you check my other videos... ;)
Sadly I have a big, alunimum spoiler on the back of my van, so spoiler-boyz might think it's their mommy and get extreamly confused... Also 4 ex pipes to provoke people. Some have later discovered that those are just not for looks... ;)
It's a heavy lump of German metal, yes. I have thought many times to put my 2.5TDI into a Golf mk2, but then realized that it doesn't have as much room for beer... ;) T4 is a nice van and I'm going to continue to build it to the extreme to keep my hobby alive.
If I translated your comment correctly, you said basicly that money talks here. It hasn't been cheap, that's true. Main reason for cost is that there has been a lot of trial and error. Today it's about 3k€ in parts + labour to get 300hp out of 2.5TDI (5cyl inline). My next target is ~450hp from my van and that's going to set me back around 15k€ including dog engagement gearbox, clutch, newer ECU + aftermarket ECU, big brakes + suspension, weight reducement, engine mods...
Could you write the whole sentence in English please. Not just ROFL and LOL...
As said earlier, it was hard getting grip with new winter tires (studs on them) and some moisture on the pavement. Maybe not the best traction setup around, but still making wheel spins @140kmh... With an old lazy diesel van...
Just look at my other videos. 14,53s/158,88kmh @1/4mile with 1980kg. That's not a fake.
It's 102hp originally, but 102hp can't spin tyres loose @140kph even on the rollers. Just take a look on my other videos. 14,53s/158,88kmh @1/4mile with 1980kg.
You can loose your driving lisence by showing speeding vids on the common roads here. I'll prefer to keep my lisence more than making you a believer... Just look my other videos as some of them are taken outside on a track. Speedo drops fast as wheels are spinning loose just when I change. Even if it is on the rollers as you think, it is still spinning wheels @140kph... Try that on your citybil...
My tacho ends 5krpm and clearly best power is between 3500-4500rpm on this video. Shouldn't that be somewhat low for VR6???
If you check my other videos, I think my VR6 is badly broken with all that black smoke coming out of the exhaust... :D
Saying it doesn't have 300hp is correct as I just used 3/4 throttle in this vid as stated in the text. This was first drive with this setup and I didn't want to broke it. With WOT it had a lot more than 300hp.
@valonvieja mister come here I'm telling no lies buckle cially degree in t4 know all about you just threw on another engine of the original is not that I'm sure
as have a vw t4 with 231pk so watch what you say dick
Just tell me how to add my dynoplot here! I have tried... It made 310hp with 1,3bar and 300Nm @2000rpm. On the track I use a bit over 2bar with adequate fueling.
And please use English.
You can also find my build thread on the Internet... There aren't that many +300hp T4 2.5TDIs around you know...
Well, you sure don't want to steer that much at 80 miles an hour or you'd lose control. But your engine obviously has too much torque which makes somewhat 'skid' on the road and when the tyres don't have traction you can steer what you want but the kinetic energy direction in which the car travels will be maintained.
Anyway, due to the pc like screen in the background I thought it was a dyno but as you mentioned, it's actually on the road than I have to say good job! Awsome car indeed :-)
I do have a question, that has been on my mind for some time. My father used to own a T4 TDI the problem is, I've been looking EVERYWHERE for the geniune specs of it.
Do you have a list of all the TDI engines used in the T4 (1998 model and up, I think he owned the 98 model.)
From memory it was a 1.9TDI but on wikipedia it says they made no TDI in 1.9 and that it was only a TD. But I am certain it was TDI.
Wow. Jesus man its only a 1.9 diesel, not a skyline :D
Another question for you, we used to own a 1000 TD T4 (says on the log book) do you have any idea where I can find engine specifications for it? Like, the MPG, MPH, 0-60 times, BHP, Torque etc etc? Thanks!
Hmm, acording to wiki, its the 68HP TD version. (not sure what the heck 1000TD is, I've looked EVERYWHERE lol.)
Any idea where I can find more info on the 68HP version? I wanted to know the MPG that it used to get.
Whats suprising is, it used to pull like a train, when I found out that it only had 68HP I wanted to laugh out load. (I did lol.) My golf TDI had double the power.
I always remembed it being powerfull, I was shocked at the HP and Toruqe it was.
It needs lots of modifications, but hey, it's a hobby.
Originally about 8L/100km, 6.8L when 186bhp (that's years ago, hybrid turbo and remapping) and last setup was around 8L. These are 70% town, 30% highway.
@1/4 mile I got 6,5s 0-100kmh, no LSD. Aim is to get it under 5,5s with LSD, better race tires and suspension setup. Getting grip is really difficult with a heavy FWD. After that it flies... :)
Wow... Faster then a ferrari eh? I would love to have that done for my old T4. I actually want to get a T4 and start it as a project. You can pick spares up on ebay for like... £300 these days.
I do have a question regarding engines though. For example, on ebay I saw a Ford Fiesta 2007 2.2 TDCi engine (standalone engine) sell for £500 quid. If I where to purchase any engine of my fancy, how do I get about installing it into the T4? What other componants from the original car (fiesta) would I need to carry over?
Also, what would the cost of something like that be? Roughly speaking?
Maybe not, but as the info states, I was using only 3/4 throttle as this was first run with this setup. After few months of fine tuning it got 350-370bhp which can be calculated from 1980kg weight and 158,88kmh trap speed @1/4 mile (ET 14,53s as grip is a problem for heavy FWD). Check my video from that run. ;)
Not quite no. On the rollers it got 310bhp with 1,3bar boost @ 4900rpm as there's not enough load to keep the pressure up. This is an inertia type dyno, but I just use it for setupping + the operator is the reason why I use this place. He has been doing "chip tuning" for 20 years already as profession, so he has helped me with many problems on my project. On the road I used ~2,1bar boost.
Next step is compounding (gt2259v + gt3782v) and boost will be 4-5bar. Target is ~450bhp.
This is an old piece of sh..., so this is a VE, not PD.
Compression with this ACV engine is 20,5:1 and it's going to be reduced to 17:1. With 3.0TD 12v 6cyl Mercedes engines we are using 23:1 CR with 3bar boost to get ~500hp.
Compounding is nothing new, but compounding with two VNTs is. The reason for this is to get usable power from 1500rpm to 6000+rpm. Everything will be electronically controlled by original Bosch ECU and aftermarket DTA ECU.
This is just my sick hobby, I don't make engines for money. Sorry.
I can point you to someone here in Finland who can do this if you like. Just PM me.
For 300+hp you need manual gearbox. Auto won't survive without major reinforcement...
Otherwise you need just a gt2260v or alike, bigger nozzles, better DP + exhaust and a good IC. I'd go for performance cams as originals are targetted for 2-3000rpm area. A nice remap of course...
Sorry, I'll keep my driving license rather than make someone a believer... :) There are some vids of my van at the 1/4 track.
Maybe one could make something like this on the rollers, but I'd think it would be difficult to pretend wheel slip and getting grip at the same time. Or maybe I'm just too lazy...
If Google Translator was correct, you seem not to be a believer. :D
I'm using only two gears here (4th and 5th) and only shifting point is around 150kmh. Otherwise it's just wheelspin and lifted throttle pedal to get grip...
See my other videos of my van and read the infos. Maybe you'll be a believer. :)
I have 2008 T5 tdi Tiptronic at 200kph down hill and slowed to 190 to take corner and felt very comfortable with handling. It is totally stock and was loaded with tools. The van cruisers at 180 but want more power. Am going to try a $1200 performance chip . They claim it increases power up to 157kw and 457NM . I have been told T5 Tiptronic is much stronger than T4's. Would like to get even more power if i can ?
Don't underestimate finns knowing how to tune diesels. We have over 500hp diesel mercs here with 3liter inline6 motors, so a one VW with 300hp is not a big thing.
You gotta know what parts to put in and how to tune the injection pump. :)
I suggest you do some :P If you take two engines, the one with the greater area below the power curve will ALWAYS win in a drag. It's simple maths. Having oodles of torque means nothing if you cannot use it. Take this for an example. An engine with 1000nm torque, but peak rpm is 1rpm. It's ability to do work is shocking. Yes you can gear it down/up, but you fall off the peak torque curve because it's only 1rpm wide (not feasible in the real world). It's why F1 cars can get away with <300nm.
They don't have a wide torque band. There torque band is comparatively much narrower then a petrol engine. Imagine an engine with 1000nm of torque that rotate at 10rpm. You aren't going to go anywhere fast. Yes you can gear it down, but in the real world you will fall off that torque band. I drive a Golf TD so I love diesels (the 2.0L). I love the swell of torque, but it still falls off at 4k, and you need to change up (falling off the curve). There's a reason diesels are slower then petrols.
Fancy swapping that for a 95 non turbo?it had 59 bhp when it was new but 180,000 miles later it struggles to do 80mph!Just think of it as a new project! If the answer is no (and i suspect it is) then nevermind, good work, nice van!
I had to order a new back box and in the booklet that listed all exhaust parts for the different models and body types, it listed my van 1.9d 1995 (59bhp)
I have a 2000 VW T4 2,5Tdi with 151hp. And it will easily run 180kph. Downhill I got it to 200kph. I must say that I have KW sport-suspensions and springs, but they lower the car just about an inch. And it is a really nice car to travel with.
I was always dreaming of getting some more power outa it, but I don´t know what all the drivetrain-components can handle in ways of torque. I think I´d be satisfied with 180hp (at least for the beginning xD)
At that time I had to make some correction with the steering wheel to stay on the road (my camera was also loosely attached to steering wheel). On left top corner you can see my Apexi AVC-R boost controller which states about 1.7-1.9bar.
Well I have now 330mm 8 pot brakes + new gearbox with diff lock from WRC Focus in it. Even at the time I took this video, my van already had Koni suspension with harder bushings everywhere and -60mm lowering.
Now I'm aiming for 400hp. Maybe some handling tweaks will be needed once again...
-a diff lock works when exiting the corner, not in the straight line where there is more traction overall and for both front wheels it is rather equally distributed. And where you already have not enough of it
-FWD simply won't handle the power due to weight transfer to the rear under hard acceleration. That's why all true sports car are either RWD or rear-biased AWD
-read about "Sprinter accidents" on autobahns. A van, even tuned one, is not built to travel at 160+ kph
-1/4 mile racers have diff lock and they do not care about cornering.
-You can fight weight transfer easily by different suspension setup. Even still I do understand that my van isn't a true sports car. Even my 8 year old doughter knows that. :)
-Show me a road car that can do even 120kph head to head collision with still objective. If you want safe, stay in your bed. BTW, I do collision repairs for living.
90% of my driving is with my van. Why can't it be fun at the same time?
Why do you think do cars like the Mercedes Sprinter and the VW T4/T5 are not made for running that fast? Nowbody would release a car beeing unsafe to drive at 180kph but beeing able to do 180kph. Especially not big companies like Mercedes or VW.
Because they are afraid of legal liability. There's always people that will say that they didn't know that driving fast is dangerous. There are also courts that encourage this. I think both parties should be put to sleep as people that stupid have no room in society. With that excuse you could also escape murder sentence, by saying that you didn't know that guns can be lethal when fired at someone.
My van is terrible to drive above 200kph, so I just don't drive that fast.
Eli tiukkaa Mesee tiedossa..? Samahan se on itsellä,,Kroppa vanhenee ja krenaa, mutta mieli on poikasen..

Just remember there are chip companies and then there are people who actually know what they are doing. Programming on the rollers is a good way to starts as that means they have invested some money in their business. Maybe they have invested some thoughts too... :)

@valonvieja Chiptuning company told me the same hp/torque figures as the powerbox does.. and the nice thing is I can control the powerbox myself, Chiptuning I can't change...
barthoedemaker 1 year ago
@valonvieja So I was thinking of a different camshaft for better opening durations of the inlet valves ? Or indeed a turbo upgrade to a larger one?
barthoedemaker 1 year ago
@barthoedemaker

Thanks!
CubeLuda 1 year ago
@CubeLuda
Actually you can get about 195-210bhp by just remapping a 150bhp T4. Maybe a de-cat and EGR blocking too
valonvieja 1 year ago
@valonvieja
Lol.

Nice dynorun ;-)
Anacinc 2 years ago
Even if it was a dynorun, it is spinning wheels @130kmh...
Furthermore camera is attached loosely to the steering wheel and you don't actually want to steer a FWD while on rollers.
valonvieja 2 years ago
Well, you sure don't want to steer that much at 80 miles an hour or you'd lose control. But your engine obviously has too much torque which makes somewhat 'skid' on the road and when the tyres don't have traction you can steer what you want but the kinetic energy direction in which the car travels will be maintained.
Anyway, due to the pc like screen in the background I thought it was a dyno but as you mentioned, it's actually on the road than I have to say good job! Awsome car indeed :-)
Anacinc 2 years ago
Ah... Now I see what you ment with this loose camera, it seems like steering but it's rocking a bit as if the steeringwheel is moving... My bad ;-)

Jesus!!! 300BHP! :D
(was LWB too.) Can you help me out?
Thanks!
CubeLuda 2 years ago
Hopefully new setup will take it close to 450bhp. This is my aim.
Wikipedia is correct. 1.9TDI came for T5. If it was TDI, it had to be an engine swap.
valonvieja 2 years ago
Thanks!
CubeLuda 2 years ago
Actually it's 2.5TDI (ACV engine code, 102bhp originally). It's roughly the same engine than 1.9TDI with an addition cylinder.
Never heard of 1000 TD T4. Sorry can't help there.
valonvieja 2 years ago
Hmm, acording to wiki, its the 68HP TD version. (not sure what the heck 1000TD is, I've looked EVERYWHERE lol.)
Any idea where I can find more info on the 68HP version? I wanted to know the MPG that it used to get.
Whats suprising is, it used to pull like a train, when I found out that it only had 68HP I wanted to laugh out load. (I did lol.) My golf TDI had double the power.
I always remembed it being powerfull, I was shocked at the HP and Toruqe it was.
CubeLuda 2 years ago
I still don't get how you managed to squeeze out 300HP from a 100HP engine :D
What is your MPG like? Also, what is the 0-60 time you get now? (any idea what the original MPG was before you remapped?)
CubeLuda 2 years ago
Last setup was ~370bhp.
valonvieja 2 years ago
Wow... Faster then a ferrari eh? I would love to have that done for my old T4. I actually want to get a T4 and start it as a project. You can pick spares up on ebay for like... £300 these days.
CubeLuda 2 years ago
I do have a question regarding engines though. For example, on ebay I saw a Ford Fiesta 2007 2.2 TDCi engine (standalone engine) sell for £500 quid. If I where to purchase any engine of my fancy, how do I get about installing it into the T4? What other componants from the original car (fiesta) would I need to carry over?
Also, what would the cost of something like that be? Roughly speaking?
Is it even possible to do?
CubeLuda 2 years ago

valonvieja 2 years ago
never 300hp
Greddy86 2 years ago
Maybe not, but as the info states, I was using only 3/4 throttle as this was first run with this setup. After few months of fine tuning it got 350-370bhp which can be calculated from 1980kg weight and 158,88kmh trap speed @1/4 mile (ET 14,53s as grip is a problem for heavy FWD). Check my video from that run. ;)
valonvieja 2 years ago
woah... not bad... but 350hp on a 2.5l Diesel... this means 3bar/43,5PSI of boost, right???
Greddy86 2 years ago
Not quite no. On the rollers it got 310bhp with 1,3bar boost @ 4900rpm as there's not enough load to keep the pressure up. This is an inertia type dyno, but I just use it for setupping + the operator is the reason why I use this place. He has been doing "chip tuning" for 20 years already as profession, so he has helped me with many problems on my project. On the road I used ~2,1bar boost.
Next step is compounding (gt2259v + gt3782v) and boost will be 4-5bar. Target is ~450bhp.
valonvieja 2 years ago
310hp with 1.3bar.. it´s a good mechanical charge of the engine.. and this on this rpm.
Is it still pump-injector???
The two Turbo´s in line.. nice.. like the new 2 Litre by VW :D
But by this boost of 4-5bar, do you downsice the compression?? I think, original it´s arround 18:1... maybee a little bit to high for the pistons...
How do you manage the turbos with each other?
Greetz
Greddy86 2 years ago
This is an old piece of sh..., so this is a VE, not PD.
Compression with this ACV engine is 20,5:1 and it's going to be reduced to 17:1. With 3.0TD 12v 6cyl Mercedes engines we are using 23:1 CR with 3bar boost to get ~500hp.
Compounding is nothing new, but compounding with two VNTs is. The reason for this is to get usable power from 1500rpm to 6000+rpm. Everything will be electronically controlled by original Bosch ECU and aftermarket DTA ECU.
valonvieja 2 years ago

This is just my sick hobby, I don't make engines for money. Sorry.
I can point you to someone here in Finland who can do this if you like. Just PM me.
For 300+hp you need manual gearbox. Auto won't survive without major reinforcement...
Otherwise you need just a gt2260v or alike, bigger nozzles, better DP + exhaust and a good IC. I'd go for performance cams as originals are targetted for 2-3000rpm area. A nice remap of course...

Torque means nothing. Power (the ability to do work) is what actually matters
dombou70 2 years ago
Make some research before posting such a dumb comment...
lietuviss1 2 years ago
I suggest you do some :P If you take two engines, the one with the greater area below the power curve will ALWAYS win in a drag. It's simple maths. Having oodles of torque means nothing if you cannot use it. Take this for an example. An engine with 1000nm torque, but peak rpm is 1rpm. It's ability to do work is shocking. Yes you can gear it down/up, but you fall off the peak torque curve because it's only 1rpm wide (not feasible in the real world). It's why F1 cars can get away with <300nm.
dombou70 2 years ago
Doesn't this make sense to you?
Power (hp) = Torque (ft*lb) * Rotational Speed (rpm)
And todays diesels have a really WIDE torque band while providing same ammount of energy as in higher rpm's
lietuviss1 2 years ago

At the moment my van has 0hp, 0Nm and engine is in small pieces. In that light your offer seems tempting...:)

shambolene:
59 hp? That sounds strange. The 2,4 l. diesel engines on T4 give 75 hp (or 78 hp on syncro versions, like my car).

Like a 1000hp Supra? It's fun of course :D I dont see why you couldnt drive a 1000hp car even at winter, just use little throttle :p

What's the point of tuning a car up to the power above its traction capabilities?
Front wheel tires loose grip even over 100 kph. Try this when cornering and you've got a head on crash with a tree near the road almost guaranteed.
theannoyingdogpoo 3 years ago
Well I have now 330mm 8 pot brakes + new gearbox with diff lock from WRC Focus in it. Even at the time I took this video, my van already had Koni suspension with harder bushings everywhere and -60mm lowering.
Now I'm aiming for 400hp. Maybe some handling tweaks will be needed once again...
valonvieja 3 years ago
Very cool but:
-a diff lock works when exiting the corner, not in the straight line where there is more traction overall and for both front wheels it is rather equally distributed. And where you already have not enough of it
-FWD simply won't handle the power due to weight transfer to the rear under hard acceleration. That's why all true sports car are either RWD or rear-biased AWD
-read about "Sprinter accidents" on autobahns. A van, even tuned one, is not built to travel at 160+ kph
theannoyingdogpoo 3 years ago
True but:
-1/4 mile racers have diff lock and they do not care about cornering.
-You can fight weight transfer easily by different suspension setup. Even still I do understand that my van isn't a true sports car. Even my 8 year old doughter knows that. :)
-Show me a road car that can do even 120kph head to head collision with still objective. If you want safe, stay in your bed. BTW, I do collision repairs for living.
90% of my driving is with my van. Why can't it be fun at the same time?
valonvieja 3 years ago
Why do you think do cars like the Mercedes Sprinter and the VW T4/T5 are not made for running that fast? Nowbody would release a car beeing unsafe to drive at 180kph but beeing able to do 180kph. Especially not big companies like Mercedes or VW.
catografie 3 years ago
Because they are afraid of legal liability. There's always people that will say that they didn't know that driving fast is dangerous. There are also courts that encourage this. I think both parties should be put to sleep as people that stupid have no room in society. With that excuse you could also escape murder sentence, by saying that you didn't know that guns can be lethal when fired at someone.
My van is terrible to drive above 200kph, so I just don't drive that fast.

Thats not fair, your fuel and temperature gauges seem to work, mine dont, at least not all the time, depends on what mood the van is in!
