I had the PC24 for years (using a Midas Venice now) and would agree with babymicrobe that the mix buss is noisy compared to many other boards (not helped by the fact that it is all unbalanced). The great eq of this mixer makes up for it, and it also has really nice preamps, but it wouldn't be my choice for quiet stuff...

hi, i've been working with manley consoles, neves, and SSL; is not that clean like this other consoles but the work that this guy did on it impressed me, this console its really clean, the preamps I didn't really liked them, when I bought it I liked the tape return, i though it was clean more than the amek BC2, or B. for the price it sound much better than the maidas, my friend bought one for his church, I liked more the pc24 modified, in the preamps I liked the BC2 and the Eq is more solid.

If there is one thing it doesn't sound like is "clean". Its a gritty board and sounds all the more lovely because of that. Perfect for mixing rock/ alt music. Its full of character. I really don't understand the obsession some people have with "clean" sounding equipment. Clean is boring, you use a mixer to add some sexyness. You want clean? Mix in the computer!

Unfortunately I can't explain the modifications made to this console because I'm only a recording engineer and I just can hear the difference in the sound.
As for the sound it has a lot of headroom, and the eq is very bright and warm, I put the highs on the top and can't hear noise. I tested the soundcraft 500 series, and the soundtracs killed it, compared with the mackies onyx it killed too.

I have the same console, PC Midi24, and love it too, whoever I wouldn't say its a clean sounding mixer, its very colored sounding and quite gritty which makes it great for mixing indie rock. Very very warm eq, especially the bass, not clean but very warm. The mix buss is a bit noisy so not recommended for quiet acoustic music.
