@promiscuouspa Viejín! A diferencia de los otros cuerpos de hielo este está en constante movimiento y crecimiento, es por eso que ocurre. Se congela interrumpiendo el paso de las aguas del Lago Argentino, se forma el puente de hielo y luego se cae a pedazos, lo hace 2 veces cada 18 años, y lo ha hecho desde hace miles y miles de años, es único en el mundo, en cada derretimiento van a verlo miles de turistas.

You should all be happy about this video. This event, the rupture of the Perito Moreno Glaciar in Argentina, used to happend every 4 years until 1982 when it stop collapsing. Scientis atributed this stop to global warming. But in 2006 it started happening again, the glaciar started to collapse, and in 2007 it happened again. And now its grew back again.
If the ice were melting, you wouldn't see such a spectacular display of calving...it would just be uneventfully melting back, but this glacier is advancing 2 meters per day. This is one of the few glaciers in the world that's actively advancing. Plus...its a fresh water lake, not an ocean.
Spectacular, yes, but not something to be happy about, not something to clap your hands and cheer about... that ice formation will never be there again.... the ice is melting, the oceans rising... not exactly a good thing.
Actually, it IS something to be happy about. What you see here is a natural, cyclic process that does not mean that the ice is melting but that it's in a continuous advance. That ice formation will be there in a year or so... This is a great thing, and Argentina is the greatest place on Earth!

SWS this the Perito Moreno glaciar in Calafate, Argentina. This glaciar is the only glaciar in the world that's active. This means it collapses and grows back again. The glaciar is between two lakes that are connected. When the glaciar blocks the water connection of the lakes, the water in one lake rises. The water pressure causes the glaciar to rupture. This happends every 2,4 years.

He may not understand the dynamics of this particular glacier, but recent reports DO show that fresh water glacier reserves are rapidly diminishing. las rupturas no tienen q ver con el calentamiento, aunque el calentamiento esta jodiendo los hielos patagonicos lamentablemente.
Para explicarlo rapido sucede porq un brazo del lago argentino queda bloqueado por el avanze del hielo y empieza a presionar contra elbloqueo
