I really love this movie! Yeah, I know it's not up to 2001 standards, and the fact that was heckled in the pilot episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 says as much, but it still appeals to me on a level that most movies of today don't. How can you NOT like a movie about a crawling eye monster in a fog in the mountains? Forrest Tucker wasn't so bad, Janet Munro was cute and sexy and extremely talented, and Hammer Films staff Jimmy Sangster wrote the screenplay! AKA "The Trollenberg Terror."
Bit of a forgotten classic this one....starts out like the Fog.....whats in the fog that call kill you.....good use of suspence and held off revealing the creature until later in the movie......good example of the Sci Fi Horror of it's day...
I remember watching this on the Million Dollar Movie when I was about 4 or 5. It scared the poop out of all of us. It was my sister was 6 years older than me, another friend my age and one my sister's age. We we home alone watching this movie. We were not supposed to do so but you know kids.
The funny thing is you dont see the monster till the end and then they just burn it.And its not really a giant eye its more of a giant monster with a small eye.
A classic horror masterpiece! How can you miss, with the immortal Forrest Tucker in the lead role, two very pretty girls, and a fine looking monster with personality like Kraw Lee Eye and company? IT'S THE BEST JERRY, THE BEST!
this movie totally freaked me out when i was a kid; i rmember watdfching it with my dad who had to console me at that one scene where the "headless" body (is suggested) is under the bed...wow, that totally terrified me. hahaha.
Can't believe I found this movie cause I couldn't even remember the name. It looks so hokey now but it was so scary as a kid. Was 6 or 7 last time I saw this & it scared you sh tless. 2 see the "scary" monster & special effects now, is 2 die laughing. And don't even mention "Chiller". Would almost crap my pants every time that VOICE came on & each time I would attempt to count the fingers before the hand sunk. Sure was GREAT growing up then, the simple life. 7:31 pm Feb. 13 2010
I loved this, like you I was 6 or 7 at the time and it was on EVERY night for a week and my mum, sis and I I watched it over and over. It was so much fub being scared out of our wits.
@peglegpeggy - I agree. I love scary movies (the fear factor). The old horror movies were great. I LOVE black & white movies! Especially like from of the 30's. It was a great era. They really knew how to tell a story back then. 10:13 pm April 7 2010

Thanks horror buffs. TOMK
Chiller was definitely on Channel 11 and Strange Tales of Science Fiction was on Channel 9. I too love the music from the latter and am so envious Sang here was able to find it! I can still hum it though!
I sure do! I watched it and the other show here in LA on channel 9 (Science Fiction Theatre?) Took me 30 years to find the music they played for the intro on the channel 9 show -Out of this World By H. Alen -J.H. Mercer original on the album The Best of PANIC. Chiller was CH 11.
Lucked out a couple of years ago and they showed The Crawling Eye at a theatre and I got to see it on the big screen!
Sure, I do. I was born in 1958, grew up in the San Gabriel Valley. My dad loved to watch those old Sci-Fi's. Us kids loved 'em too, even if sometimes we had a nightmare from a really good episode from time to time. And the voice of the never-seen host of the show was the best.
The Crawling Eye left a strong impression on me when I saw it when I was about 6. I just saw it again about a year ago. Incredible how scary it wasn't by today's standards.

Strange Tales of Science Fiction was the name of the one on Channel 9. You are correct, Chiller was on Channel 11. I envy your finding the music to STOSF I can still hum it though.
I saw this as a double feature in 1958 (1959??) with "I Married a Monster From Outer Space" ... or was it "The Blob"? on 42nd Street in Manhattan. These were great little Sci-Fi gems.
This movie worked for me when I was a kid. Cured me of ever going mountain climbing in Europe with two guys named Ernst, Albert Einsteins lab assistant, and Sargent Tucker from F Troop.
"DongusEddy": Yeah: I guess this movie would cure anyone of a desire to go mountain climbing. Yup: Forrest Tucker - and "Einstein's lab assistant!" LOL!!!
They remade other movies from back then , but why didn't they remake this one?? THEY GOTTA REMAKE THIS!!

Forest Tucker should pull out his big chief and slap that eye back up the mountain.

The lack of CGI.. definitely pushed the actual actors to actually you know act. Something lacking these days.
I rather want shoddy FX but good acting then good FX and terrible acting. Like our summer holiday busters are these days :(
And it isn't that bad a movie, quite enjoyable.. with or without MST3K.
