I hope this doesn't offend anyone: This guy Alex Chilton was So much better that Stevie Winwood.Sorry... Dave Mason , to me was the only thing remotely interesting in the band Traffic. Spencer davis group had 2 hits? Hello. Big difference. Like comparing the Moody Snooze to the band LOVE.
The American equivalent of Stevie Winwood, in that at such a young age both had such rich, amazing voices that were both instantly recognisable. The Boxtops were one of my favourite bands of the late 60s, thanks to Alex Chilton's superbly distinctive vocals.

Good group. The great band was the Replacements. And the Replacements or Paul evidently got ideas from Alex a la Date to Church which is much better with a great keyboard swirl. Alex even looks a little like Paul here.
This spring will be the time when the dead rock stars (I speak of the real true stars) will outnumber the living ones. Chilton went last week, and Johnny Maestro from The Crests ("Sixteen Candles") followed him yesterday.
MAN WE SURE LOVE AND ALREADY MISS ALEX......I looked up cool, and right there man was The Box Top's front man William Alexander Chilton's picture.....rest in peace my friend......maybe we can jam on the night shift when I get up there maestro.....two hearts are better than one.....BUT hey, we won't need old dusty hearts any ol' way..........just a little bit a soul baby.
His voice really comes out with such clarity and conviction that really enhances his sound as well as the others members instruments. You have one of the best sounding sites and definitely music from one of the best groups ever!!!.
Alex was one cool dude, I assume he knew JESUS wonderful to hear, r.i.p. Alex see you soon in heaven brother

Lots of his vocal inflections remind me of Jesse Colin Young's style. I'm thinking this is where Jesse was influenced.
