Well, when it comes to Abrahamic religions, God does have a gender. He is presented as masculine, along with his angels, hencewhy they only have male names. God is viewed as the Father, and is only referred to in male pronouns. You can't get anymore patriarchal than Yahweh and Allah. These mythological concepts are based on a misogynistic foundation. Fuck patriarchy, and fuck religion.
Ya Marlion, I just saw an exhibit about Mama Wata at the African Art Museum in Washington DC. Her goddess-ness began with a circus poster. Pretty fascinating how people make gods from every thought or desire or hunger. The story's on wikipedia if you're interested ... just search "Mama Wata".
Read the bible... God is not encased in a physical body and when He was He came as a man only to continue the order that he s!!t in Eden. If He had created Eve first He would've come back in a female body. The only thing we can do as mortal and finite as we are is accept what God has established. I'm never sure what folks mean when they quote the Bible, which was written by guys like you and me, and then say that the book contains "God's word". To me, the Bible seems like an unauthorized biography or historical fiction.

Ah, what's always interesting to me is what is missing from books. Heard of the film "Jesus in India"? It's about what may have happened during his life from the ages of 12 and 30 ... which the Bible doesn't really cover.
