For those of us who lived when this was actually the NEGRO NATIONAL ANTHEM... the word was NEGRO not Black.. we started being referred to as BLACK in the 70's but oddly enough before that we were COLORED in the south.... but in the national census records from 1870 til 1920 we were BLACK then in 1930 we were NEGRO... just a history lesson...

Thank God for the Negro National Anthem, BLACK is totally different. Black doesnt always mean Negro, it can mean, Jewish, Indian, Hindu, Africans and any peoples of black skin color. They all have their history and their struggles, but not all Blacks have the struggle of the American Negro. This is OUR song. Own it and be proud of it. The struggle continues!

I love this song, and I've seriously NEVER heard it sung to music, but i want to (hence me looking it up). Also, in response to all the arguments over the title, i kinda feel like calling it the black national anthem would take away some of the significance of the song, but that's just my opinion. I think we should call it the negro anthem as a reminder of what we've been through. But, once again, don't get offended this is all my opinion, ain't nothing that I'm saying law.
